What if they find the answer themselves or the question has been aswered. You can edit the question to say it's been answered, but some people bump these year old questions with answers because of their ignorance.

You could also hide the post yourself. The reason the 'closed' feature exists is so the posters can get a reason as to why their post is against the rules, and to help them get the original answer themselves.
But hiding it means others can't use it to answer their questions.
I mean it doesn't really matter either way. I guess it could save some time from us closing it or whatever but that's about it.

Pokemaster already responded to this a while ago.

This is how closing worked originally, but people kept closing questions incorrectly. For example they closed a question as soon as they got an answer (whether or not it was right).
The reason we have closing is so users know that their question is against the rules and it doesn't just disappear.

Just to add to this, closing questions is a precursor to hiding them later. If the user realises their question is a duplicate they can just go ahead and hide it.
