I've seen a couple users say not to ask for up-votes. Personally, I've done it a couple times and users asked why I was doing it. However, there are questions that say to up-vote answers you like best. I've also seen users saying to "Click the green tick", which grants that user 20 points. Is it against the rules or not?

asking for upvotes is pretty much the same as buddy-voting or spam voting, so in that instance i think me, and others, would assume yes, it's against the rules. the asking for BA is because a lot of new users don't know that and it saves the mods time from having to do it themselves.
Whether or not it's against the rules, asking for people to upvote your post is of point begging which is, in my personal opinion, pretty annoying, and it's something I wouldn't say you *should* do, even if it isn't against the rules.
Oh. I don't do it now.

Don't ask for people to upvote you.

The BA thing is as Ty said. Some users will comment that the answer is satisfactory but don't know the BA feature, so in that instance it's ok to tell them that it exists. The alternative is that we have to go through pages of content selecting BAs ourselves

Alright. Thanks.
Personally, I only tell people about BAing after looking at their profile to see if they've BA'd before
