Very minor I know, I know, and a lot of people may not see the point of this change.

Is it necessary? No, it’s not, but I think it would be a good and proactive change for the database, and here’s why.

  • Gender isn’t the same as pronouns. A lot of people don’t know this and don’t comprehend it, and they don’t have to. But an example of this is how I’m the Girlfriend to user ~Pancreas~, while my pronouns are they/them.
  • It might help with misgendering. If people had their pronouns in their profile, there would be less guesswork.
  • It might reduce the amount of jokes in the gender section, especially those that are more offensive. The amount I’ve seen “attack helicopter” and stuff just because people saw “gender”, is stupid.
  • It’s more progressive. Like I said earlier, gender does not equal to pronouns, and the gender = pronoun thing is super outdated. I believe having that minor change may make the LGBT community on the site feel more inclusive since pronouns aren’t a transgender exclusive thing and it might encourage healthy and educational discussion on the topic via a healthy exposure.

Additional question for people who don’t like the idea of it: What benefits does the gender box have over a pronoun box?
It’s the same thing, just more scientifically correct and inclusive

If only transgender people have pronouns in their profile, it still allows a sense of alienation.
Pronouns aren’t just for transgender people and if everyone shared their pronouns regardless of trans or not, it helps with the discrimination and alienation aspect. It makes the concept of using and respecting pronouns more normal. It’s about making a community and supporting people, not just yourself.
Obviously people don’t have to put their pronouns in their profile if this gets implemented, but I believe it would help encourage people to do so and thus reinforce the statements I made above.

Disclaimer: obviously transphobic and ignorant people are still going to troll with these things regardless, and staff will ban those people. I just think this would be more inclusive and progressive

PX Edit: due to the sensitivity of the subject (apparently) I'll be hiding some comments. If you want to discuss the subject you can on our walls or on discord.

I think it would make more sense to do gender/pronouns instead of just pronouns. Some of the child users on this site probably don't even know the definition of a pronoun, and seeing gender/pronoun could allow them to understand kind of what the box is for, and could even begin a learning experience as to what pronouns are in today's culture

imo just makes better sense
@baron, I would definitely prefer just pronouns since Education but I’ll happily take that over just gender
@bm yes but Inclusivity and Education
Pronouns aren’t transgender exclusive though? *Everyone* has pronouns. If they want to put male instead of pronouns, or something else, or nothing, so be it. For the reasons I stated I believe it’s more inclusive overall for everyone
I don't understand why this is controversial.

Benefits: it makes trans people like me feel more comfortable and welcome

Cons: literally none. PM just needs to change some text. Even I could do that and I barely know coding.

I don't see any reasonable argument not to. I understand that I'm biased but these arguments are the same anti-trans rhetoric that keeps being repeated.

For the record, I'm not calling anyone transphobic. But y'all are making a lot of excuses to not do a tiny change with no downsides
This!! Most people put their prns anyways, I don’t see why this hasn’t been implemented.
Bump please?
