Why cant we put markdowns on walls or about me's?

I was trying to put an image of sprigatito on my wall but it failed, and someone saw the attempt and told me it doesnt work.

  1. Why can't we do it?
  2. If there is no real answer for the above question, would it be possible to add this feature?

The main reason is it doesn't align with the goals of the software this site runs on. Profile pages are supposed to be informative supplementary information to the main Q&A, and ignoring formatting keeps them closer to that purpose. Even social media sites don't let you use formatting in bios or DMs.

I'm aware that for a lot of people, profile pages + chat room is the main event of PokemonDB so they feel left out by the above. But it's just not the main purpose of this website or the software it runs on so it won't be reinforced with features.

So if you throw down enough images or videos, it could cause the website to run a lot less smoothly. The moderators might see unnecessary pictures and delete them. But the moderators can’t track wall posts and the me section. So with so many people throwing down random pictures it could become very hard to keep the site running smoothly. Also the moderators wouldn’t be able to check for inappropriate pictures.

I doubt that allowing images on profiles would cause much of an issue in terms of how well the site runs. You're entirely right about moderators being unable to edit wall posts and profiles to remove anything inappropriate, but I'd imagine the actual reason markdown isn't on walls and profiles is more on the technical side.

In the rules though it says no excessive amount of pictures. I guess I just interpreted as that’s why they don’t do markdown for walls.

the no excessive pictures is for the Q&A side of the site. HT's right that media in profiles would not affect the sites performance, and the reason is mostly moderation and technical.
