My parents:
> have a baby that's abnormally white
> are not finnish and the last finnish family member was generations ago
> "it's the finnish! we have a fin baby!"
> "fin baby" ends up having a genetic disorder and is 44% british
My mom: *shocked pikachu face*

apparently OCT's arent standard for eye exams which is why it wasn't caught earlier :sobs:

my family called me the "fin baby" because i was so white. Everyone in my family noticed i was more white/blonde. im mad at my family for thinking i was finish instead of albino lmao

I ALWAYS COMPLAINED ABOUT THEM SUCKING BUT I WASN'T BELIEVED because i read 20/20 with the glasses. so during the eye exams, i pass it since it's only looking for near or farsightedness.

when i went a year and a half ago, i complained to my doctor and said that even with my glasses "everything is still blurry", and he took that and RAN with it. like he gave me this classic look of horror, hesitated, and asked if i meant that everything was "not sharp", no matter how close or far. i thought this was normal for poor prescription so i looked at him like he was an idiot and was like duh?? and he gave me this look of pure disbelief and took me back for more testing. They did what they call OCT imaging??? and it showed i don't have a foveal pit, which is a classic sign of albinism and also the reason why everything is blurry.

i also did a mini-experiment in the summer, where i went outside for walks every day in shorts (with sunscreen ofc), and i didn't get a tan. not even the slightest. I am physically incapable of getting tans
i also compared skin tones with my family and low and behold, i am 10 shades lighter of white lmao. i looked at toddler pics with me and my sister too, and you could see the difference there as well. but it's so unobvious if you weren't looking for it.

completely unrelated. I don't think i ever gave you the full run down on my vision so i'm gonna blab your ears off.
so. in the summer i found out there's a very good chance i'm albino. i went and saw the ophthalmologist and he was like "yeah your eyes are deformed and have been since your birth, you also have nystagmus and **** vision. get dna testing for albinism and wear sunscreen. get UV protective clothes and wear sunglasses" and i was DUMBFOUNDED. and so i'm on the waitlist for dna testing to confirm the diagnosis but the waitlist is hell here. so, i'm applying for the labrat thing in wisconsin.
and so, come to learn my vision isn't normal at all. turns out people aren't supposed to see double and have their eyes jump all over the place? the more i've paid attention to it, the more i realized that *everything* is blurry, literally everything. it's so weird because i went up until now thinking everything was fine and not really noticing these things, but like. the letters normal people see on the screen aren't fuzzy? you're telling me letters aren't fuzzy to other people? like i'm so shocked. i've been living in 240p this entire time. the best way to explain my vision is to put on a video in 240p and that's about what I see everywhere LMAO and i genuinely never questioned it.
it explains why i have trouble reading, too. the nystagmus makes my eyes jump and i accidently skip lines in a paragraph.
i'm just. so shocked i lived my whole life thinking 260p was normal.
