So recently I have gotten into competitive battling and I have used Pokemon Showdown to try out my team and then I bred Pokemon in-game. So far, in both the simulator and the game my team has done pretty well. I usually do Free Battles, but I will do more Rating Battles once I get more practice.
Greninja (M) @ Expert Belt
Role: Special Sweeper/Lead
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Modest Nature
IVs: 15 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- U-Turn
- Ice Beam
- Scald
Greninja is my lead 90% of the time. He can cover a lot of types and do a lot of damage with protean. Dark Pulse is for coverage, U-Turn can usually OHKO other Greninjas and squishy dark types even with a hindering nature and an imperfect IV. Ice Beam is for more coverage and deals with the common dragon types such as Garchomp. Scald is for more damage and the occasional burn is very helpful. Lastly, the expert belt usually gets it's bonus because of the wide variety of moves in Greninja's arsenal and combined with STAB on every move it can dish out a ton of damage.
Gengar (M) @ Gengarite
Role: Special Sweeper
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Hypnosis
- Dream Eater
- Thunderbolt
Gengar is amazing when he isn't KOed because of his terrible bulk. If hypnosis can hit, Gengar can get free dreams to eat and the opponent can't switch out because of Shadow Tag. Shadow Ball is for STAB and Thunderbolt is for Coverage.
Garchomp (F) @ Choice Scarf
Role: Revenge Killer/Physical Sweeper
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Stone Edge
If my sweeper faints, I'll send in Garchomp to clean up and take over Greninja or Gengar's role. I chose Dragon Claw over outrage because of the opponent sends in a Fairy or Ice type, and Garchomp is on an outrage, I won't be able to switch him out. Earthquake is STAB and is amazing due to it's power and coverage. Stone Edge is for more coverage and Fire Fang is for Ice types.
Aegislash (M) @ Spooky Plate
Role: Mixed Wall Breaker
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Shadow Ball
- King's Shield
- Iron Head
- Shadow Sneak
If I see a wall that could pose a problem on the enemy's team, I'll pick Aegislash. With EVs in both Attack and Sp. Attack he can take out both types of walls. Kings Shield is for changing forms and Iron Head is for fairies.
Cresselia @ Leftovers
Role: Mixed Wall/Staller
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk / 172 SDef
Hasty Nature
IVs: 15 HP / 15 Atk / 15 Def / 15 SAtk / 15 SDef / 15 Spd
- Psychic
- Toxic
- Moonlight
- Ice Beam
Cresselia doesn't have a very good nature and IV's since I transferred her from Black 2, but she still does very well as a wall or staller. Psychic is for STAB, Toxic is for wearing the enemy down, and Moonlight is for healing while Toxic does damage. Ice Beam is for coverage. I might replace Ice Beam with Lunar Dance, but I'm still testing it on the simulator.
Skarmory (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Role: Physical Wall/Annoyer
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Roost
- Roar
- Brave Bird
Once Stealth Rock is set up, I'll usually spam Roar to deal gradual damage from the entry hazard and Rocky Helmet. Whirlwind might be better, but I forgot to get it as an egg move and it has less accuracy. Roost is for healing and Brave Bird is for damage in case I get taunted.
