As you may have read in this title, this team does not have a Mega, and is VGC. The thing is about VGC, it's just as centralized around Megas as OU is. Heck, I don't even have an Aegislash to sponge just about every hit on this team. My original idea was just to build Greninja in VGC, but evolved into no mega as my team finally settled. Without further adieu, here's the team.
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Protect
- Taunt
- Hydro Pump
The Ninja himself, and an amazing utility to the team. It could never sponge a hit with these defenses, so I opted for the next best thing, AKA all out power and a little hope-it-lives (AKA Amoonguss). You may be asking why I don't have Dark Pulse, or anything like that. The reason is simple. Taunt stops Aegis (I can nail it fairly hard with Hydro Miss once it hits Sword Forme), and everything is STAB. Most run Mat Block Greninja, I'm a bit more sane. I like my Protect. It also gives me a way to beat a Shadow Sneak spamming Taunted Aegislash. Ice Beam is for dragon slaying and Hydro Miss is for OHKOing Rotom-Heat and Talonflame.
Rotom-Heat @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 4 SpA / 116 SpD / 28 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect
Enter Rotom-Heat, slayer of everything Mawile, Aegislash, and Charizard Y, as well as being a decent burn spreader. The bulk is standard in VGC, as well as the speed outspeeding speed creepers. Not a lot to say, but a definite MVP.
Scizor @ Lum Berry
Ability: Technician
EVs: 236 HP / 164 Atk / 20 Def / 84 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- X-Scissor
- Swords Dance
- Protect

Is where this Scizor is from. It's still pretty relevant. It lives Talon's Brave Bird, absorbs status, and likes sweeping in this fairy infested Meta with Bullet Punch at +2 or 4 depending on the situation.
Overall, it's a fairly solid choice, even without Bug Bite. Also, it was a steel type that replaced Aegislash on this team since Aegislash is something I haven't lived without in VGC.
Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Giga Drain
- Spore
- Rage Powder
- Protect
My answer to Trick Room (Spore + that low speed), my redirecter, and my overall general annoyer. There are no words to describe how much Rage Powder holds this team together. EVs are of an old set as well, which lives Metagross' 252 Adamant Zen Headbutt, which incidentally is enough to live Khan Return. Note the item and ability are to punish any physical attackers upon sight. I usually run Regenerator, but not this time
Machamp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
- Rock Slide
Oh Machamp, slayer of Kangaskhans. Scarf is to outspeed up to Pyroar in speed. Knock Off is to hit Aegislash on the switch. Ice Punch to slay Dragons here and there when needed, Rock Slide to round coverage and do some flinch hax. Guts is to make sure burns don't neuter me. Not a lot to say other than a really weird and successful set.
Gardevoir @ Choice Specs
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 116 Def / 60 SpA / 20 SpD / 60 Spe
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Psyshock
- Energy Ball
- Shadow Ball
Oh look, standard Specs Gardevoir, taking Khan Returns and Talon Brave Birds. To be honest, I only bring her for dragon immunities. Not much else of a reason to. She hits Mega Venusaur hard, so that's a plus.
I'd do lead combos, but I don't really have any particular ones since I have to predict based off the team I face.
