I spent quite a long time seeking for a decent team. At first, I randomly grabbed Pokes that seemed interesting, powerful, or just plain cool-looking. Then, as the unfamiliar terms synergy, wall, and supporter was introduced to my inexperienced mind, I scrap-piled Loco the Ludicolo & Crew for Pokemon that worked with each other... and looked cool while doing that. Hence the name Meticulous Selection, because this time I really took the time to choose the right 'mon for my team. But I'm not sure this works out nicely (it sure has won quite a few battles), so forgive any amateur mistakes I made, thanks!
Lead
Marigold (Azumarill) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Protect
Many of you would probably quickly nod at Marigold and then move on to critique the other party members: Huge Power + Belly Drum + Aqua Jet can be seen everywhere in the OU tier. Play Rough is also fairly common and provides additional STAB, while Protect scouts and gives Leftovers recovery that is so precious after Belly Drum. It might be risky to send Azumarill to the forefront at first, but while the other team's busy spiking, Marigold sets up and gets ready to sweep.
Sweepers
MorningGlory (Mega Gardevoir) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
Now you've probably figured out that I really don't for go the surprise factor in my team. MorningGlory's moves are selected in true sweeper fashion --- all attack and no nonsense. Hyper Voice has awesome power and STAB after being Pixilated and takes care of pesky Dark, Fighting, and Dragon 'mons. Thunderbolt for Water and Flying, Shadow Ball for Shadow and Psychic, and Psychic for Poison. When I don't know what to do with the opposing Pokemon, I can be fairly sure that MorningGlory got a super-effective attack for it.
RedRidingHood (Breloom) (F) @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Spore
- Focus Punch
- Stone Edge
- Seed Bomb
A very non-creative Sporeloom. When something gets obnoxious to kill, Spore it and Focus Punch. Stone Edge for the nasty TFlames or other Fire-slash-Flying menaces. Seed Bomb's there for STAB and taking out Quagsire, Gastrodon, and whatever else it can hit hard against. Typically, I rarely send out Breloom unless Fighting-type moves are necessary or if a Blissey/Chansey/Florges gets in the way for MorningGlory to sweep.
Walls
Esmeralda (Blissey) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
My Toxic staller right here. When anything seems like Special-Sweeper material, I rush Esmeralda to the battlefield and let her take some hits. Combined with Soft-Boiled, Protect, and Leftovers, Blissey's naturally-born high HP can help her last for QUITE A WHILE against special attacks. Seismic Toss is there to further speed up the Toxic-stall process and to punish incoming Pokemon when I predict a switch all while ignoring Blissey's horrific attack stat.
PricklyPear (Ferrothorn) (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
The only non-Shiny in the party, PrickPear(Cactus) holds an unusual job for a Ferrothorn. Instead of being a Spiker --- which I've used it as before --- it blocks Physical Sweepers from killing Esmeralda or in general any other teammate. When Marowak prepares to Bonemerang my precious Blissey to death, I invite my Ferrothorn to the party to inflict Iron Barbs + Rocky Helmet damage. If a HP Fire or Flamethrower is anticipated, I quickly swap to Esmeralda. Leech Seed and Protect is for healing and scouting, respectively, and to annoy. The last two are for STAB and amazing power in case a Taunt comes my way or if I expect a Fairy-type to switch in.
Wall Breaker
Meena (Gothitelle) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Energy Ball
I suppose if there was a sliver of uniqueness in my team it would be contained in my Meena. In case Wall comes in and my Sweepers are prevented from, well, sweeping, I let Meena handle them. Psyshock for STAB and those unsuspecting Special Walls. Thunderbolt if Phazer Skarms decided to try Whirlwinding my team. HP Fire for Ferrothorns (on the other team, of course), and Energy Ball for more coverage. Of course, with Choice Specs, my Gothitelle is destined to hit hard, fast, then swiftly call for backup.
Known Counters :(
Gengar will Sludge Bomb Marigold, MorningGlory, and RedRidingHood without mercy. Meena wouldn't hold a chance against STAB Shadow Ball. Esmeralda would be able to stand gallantly even after four hard hits, but have no way to dealing damage back because of Gengar's immunity to Toxic and Seismic Throw. My PricklyPear would have no problem enduring infinite Poison attacks but would easily crumble against any other special moves. Grr...
If anyone thinks I should modify my party in anyway, please answer! Thank you!
