Likely tier: Uber
I JUST got Zekrom, and boy is it a shame that this beauty can't learn Earthquake - it would've been a TRUE force to be reckoned with!

I don't get it - Zekrom has all 3 things going for it to learn this move:

1.) High attack
2.) Heavy
3.) Zekrom's ability

An Uber for sure. More powrful than Reshiram, I only have one complaint. It can't learn Earthquake. It is yet another Pokemon I give the Adament nature.

Ability: Terra Voltage

EVs: HP, Attack, Defense Nature: Adament

Lightning Strike: Very powerful, physical, and 20% chance to paralyze. The accuracy raise from Claw Sharpen really makes it the STAB move of choice over Cross Thunder.

Claw Sharpen: Increases Attack while increasing accuracy for Lightning Strike.

Outrage: The Dragon move of choice in the Uber enviroment.

Crunch: Okay, as I have said before, there are a ton of Psychics in Uber, so Crunch is a must.

Zekrom's Attack is the same as Reshiram's Sp. Attack. so they are equally powerful in that regard. Reshiram doesn't resist Water, it's 1x, but Zekrom has 4 weaknesses while Zekrom has 3
Lightning Strike? Do you mean Bolt Strike? and Claw Sharpen? I don't even know what that is. Terra Voltage? Do you mean Terravolt?
Primal Gordon, Lightning Strike=Bolt Strike and Claw Sharpen=Hone Claws.

Lightning Strike/Cross thunder-Mercy on all his victims. Cross thunder is a little bit weaker, but more reliable. Plus, in double battles it gains more power when cross flame is used in conjunction (like from reshiram? Major power in the uber field.)

Outrage/Draco meteor-Tons of dragons in Uber, so this is fine. If you want a mixed sweeper, then Draco meteor still kills everything in its path.

Crunch-Deals with those psychic types, I;m looking at you Mewtwo...

Claw sharpen/Light screen-boosts stats as trachy said. There aren't many pokemon in the Uber tier that use brick break, so you could use light screen without too much trouble. And with all those legendary special sweepers...

I see he has a catch rate of 45.... Can that be right?

Uhhhh.... this was 3 years ago. PLEASE stop necroposting.
This is not necroposting as it is a moveset question
No but sep he was telling them "for the last time" 3 years later. Also, this was when Zekrom was first released/ wasn't released yet so obviously they know now.
Isn't it supposed to have a catch rate of 45 since it's required for the story?  I think that's the same with Reyquaza in ORAS.  I didn't know about it until I looked it up.  I just thought I was stupidly lucky that I caught it on my first Ultra Ball after weakening it
Since the legendary dragon is required to progress through the story, the programmers made it easier to catch so it wouldn't be so irritating to catch. The catch rate of 45 is accurate in gen 5, but afterwords, it had a normal legendary catch rate.

Mixed Bulkyish Zekrom

Ability: Teravolt

Nature: Naive

EVs: 252 Spe, 176 HP, 80 SpA

Item: Life Orb/Leftovers

Bolt Strike: Great STAB move for Zekrom, absolute demolishes Ho-Oh, Kyorge and co on their weaker physical defence.

Outrage/Draco Meteor: Another great STAB choice for Zekrom, Outrage for hitting the likes of Chansey, Blissey and others on their weaker physical defence, Draco Meteor for hitting the likes of Groudon harder on their weaker special defence.

Earth Power/Focus Blast/Hidden Power (Fire): Earth Power to hit the likes of Heatran, Dialga, and other Steel types hard. Focus Blast to handle Ferrothorn and Tyranitar as well as the likes of Heatran and Dialga. Hidden Power Fire to hit Ferrothorn, Scizor and some other Steel types harder than the aforementioned moves.

Roost: Helps keep Zekrom healthy, especially when using Life Orb as your preferred item.

Whelp, Everythings Already Covered except a Special Sweeper, I Guesss Ill Give That.

Nature: Rash/Mild

EVs: 252 Speed, 252 SA, 4 HP

Thunderbolt: Yeah.

Flash Cannon: Covers Ice, and Those Rock/Ground Types.

Dragon Claw/Outrage: STAB

Shadow Ball/Psychic/Hyper Voice: Back Up.

If it's truly a special sweeper, shouldn't it have Dragon Pulse instead?

My zekrom is at lvl 100 Gentle nature and knows ;
draco meteor (i preffer this over outrage, more power and usually knocks out other dragons with one hit)
Bolt strike (very powerful but crap accuracy)
Psychic (good chance of lowering sp. Def)
and Hyper voice (backup)

hope this helps :D

Ability: Teravolt
Nature: Timid
Hold Item: Wide Lens

  • Bolt Strike - An obvious move. Lv. 100. 130 Sp.Atk. power, 85 accuracy, but boosted with wide lens. 20% chance of paralysis.
  • Draco Meteor/Outrage- If you want my full answer to this specific choice, refer to my Reshiram moveset. But basically, Draco Meteor: bigger boom, harshly decreases Sp.Atk. Outrage: devastating temper tantrum, confused with fatigue after 2-3 turns.
  • Stone Edge - Eradicate ice-types fast with 100 power and 80 accuracy.
  • Substitute - A move to fill the gap of the tragic fact that I cannot find a move that is super-effective against ground-types within Zekrom's movepool.

To effectively target ground types, either switch to a more strategic pokemon or try to power your way through it's defenses.

Should run Crunch instead of Sub, helps against the many Psychics, Timid lowers attack, so Jolly. If running Draco, use Naive, and Have a life orb because it benefits special attacks and physical.
Bolt Strike hits harder against Psychic, Outrage hits for equal.
Bolt Strike's Physical, not Special :P

Bolt strike/fusion bolt: for obvious reasons.
Draco meteor: It's the best dragon move, so don't forget to use PP ups!
Focus blast: fighting type is a very strong type, so that's why.
Fly:For flying around.

Bolt Strike, and replace F-Blast with Hone Claws for more POWER!!!

Okay, for those of you who think Reshiram is weaker than Zekrom are wrong
these two magnificent Pokemon BOTH have a base stat of 680 which means they are equals with different areas of specialty and Zekroms is Attack

Zekrom @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant (+Attack,-Sp.Atk)
Evs:(252 Attack/252 Speed/4 Sp.Def)
Zekrom Moveset

-Bolt Strike
-Stone Edge/ Roost
-Giga Impact/Magnet Rise

Bolt Strike is STAB and has good power and OK accuracy
Outrage is STAB has Amazing power and Great accuracy
Stone Edge is Coverage against your Counterpart, Reshiram
Giga Impact for a Quick Finish
(Roost) is for healing
(Magnet Rise) is for Immunity to Ground Types

Note: visit the Move tutors in Black White 2 for the Extra moves

The best moveset for Zekrom is:

1:Fusion Bolt

2:Bolt Strike

3:Drago Meteor

4:Dragon Claw

A fairy type or ground type (xerneas and groudon) will wall the hell out of this moveset, your better off going fully physical and getting rid of draco meteor and getting hone claws, roost, or coverage. And two electric moves? get rid of one(your choice) and get one of the previously mentioned options.

in my opinion, this would be a good moveset for zekrom (plz no hatful comments),

Draco meteor: An already powerful attack but mixed with zekroms great special attack and STAB, it would make Draco meteor a force to be reckoned with!

Stone edge: Zekrom has 4 weaknesses: Ice, Ground, Fairy, and Dragon. But with Stone edge, it gets rid of Ice and Ground types! that's 2 out of 4 of Zekroms weaknesses!

Bolt strike: One of zekroms signature moves. It has a base power of 130 and STAB! the ACC. is off though but with an item, its doomsday for this place!

Fusion bolt: Zekroms other signature move. Its power is 100 witch may be weaker then bolt strike but the ACC is one hundred too! great for sweaping out Pokemon!

Zekrom's Attack is better than his Sp. Attack, so i'd put Dragon Claw or Outrage and Stone Edge doesn't cover Ground, Ground is SE on Rock, not the other way, but otherwise, that's a pretty solid set, just give him a Magnet!

Zekrom is an amazing Electric-type. I recommend some good attacks.
Bolt Strike: This Zekrom you have will need to be Lv.100 in order to learn this devastating move.
It gets STAB as well. It is the Physical, 85-accuracy version of Thunder. It also has 130 power.
Outrage/Dragon Claw: They fit Zekrom for being a Physical attacker, but I would recommend Dragon Claw more because it doesn't confuse you.
Stone Edge: It has a nice chance to Critical hit your opponent. It might have a chance to take down annoying walls like Shuckle or Armaldo. It also counters its Ice-type weakness.
Magnet Rise: It ignores Ground-type moves like Earth Power or Bulldoze.
I hope I helped.

I'd give him an item, preferably Life Orb or Magnet.
mkkp, please look at the wall on your profile for a moment. Thanks.
mkkp, when he's level 100 he doesn't need an item to be a good Pokémon. No legendary does, aside from the ones that have their own items to use on them.

Special Zekrom

Zekrom @ Life Orb / Choice Specs
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature (+SpA, - Atk)
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon

Thunderbolt/Thunder is STAB. Thunderbolt for accuracy, Thunder for power. Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor is STAB. Again, Dragon Pulse for accuracy, Draco Meteor for power. However, Draco Meteor lowers SpA by 2 stages, so Dragon Pulse is recommended. Earth Power is coverage and makes use of his ability. Flash Cannon covers Ice and Fairy as well as Rock.

I can't help it, but l get really annoyed when people use attacking stats the wrong way. Give him Steel Wing, it works with his Attack. Now, l've got to post a set for Dialga. BYE!!
I was trying to make a Zekrom different from the standard Bolt Strike, Outrage, Stone Edge, etc you always see. Special Zekrom can be unexpected. I could swap in Zekrom on a resist, force them out into a physical wall, and hit hard with a Choice Specs Draco Meteor.
Well, yeah, it's just that Zekrom's base Attack is 30 points higher than Sp. Attack, and my Zekrom has 92 more points in Attack then Sp. Attack. So that's why.
But that is very unpredictable, though!

Oh man okay this guy destroys in Uber so this moveset is like a H-bomb :)
[email protected]
Ability: Teravolt
Nature: Adamant
Fusion Bolt, this move has 100 power and 100 accuracy, and he gets STAB, so that makes it 150 power.
Dragon Claw, I like it better than Outrage because, well I'm just not a risky guy.( But, he still gets 120 power with STAB, so that kinda evens it out...)
Zen Headbutt, for flinching purposes XD...
Bolt Strike, with it's 130 power that would give STAB umm... let's see... 195 base power!!! With Magnet that makes... umm...217 power!!! Or does the Magnet's boost come after the STAB boost, because if it does, that would give it... 229 power!!! Oh wow that would be great, wouldn't it?

Anyways, this set's idea is to wreck everything out there. If that fails, just send in Giratina or Ho-oh to wreck everything!!

Edit: Now, l'm using Hone Claws instead of Zen Headbutt, for even more Attack and Accuracy!
Is it powerful enough yet? With this amount of Attack, it will smash through Barriers and the pokes on the other side, too! NO MORE PHYSICAL WALLS ALLOWED!!!

edited by
Yeah, I think the Dragon Claw is a much better option since Zekrom has a naturally greater Atk stat rather than Spc. Atk
@Hartley, Outrage is Physical, too. I'd choose Dragon Claw because you don't get Confused after, and you're not stuck on one move when a Xerneas comes. The worst part about Zekrom is that he doesn't get E-Terrain or Charge(that would put him in AG, though). With both used, Bolt Strike would do 2.6x damage, or 338 power. So that's why he can't learn either.
And that's why l pair him with a E-Terrain Electivire.
I use that exact same moveset

Zekrom @ Leftovers
Ability: Teravolt
Nature: Adamant
Evs: 252 hp, 252 attack
Move set:

Shadow Claw: Decent power, Coverage
Bolt Strike: Stab, great power, boosted accuracy by hone claw
Dragon Claw: STAB, decent power
Hone Claw: boosts accuracy (for bolt strike) and attack making Zekrom quite the sweeper.

Zekrom is definitely powerful and deserves its rank. It is unfortunate how it can not learn earthquake, but all the less it can be bulky and sweep at the same time.
