Something about generations and differents?

I've been playing Pokemon almost my whole life, and I've been wondering,..Why do Pokemon games go by generations and the show of it doesn't?Is the game is being told the same way from the show?

The Pokemon anime is sequenced by generation just like the games. For the list of all anime serie's click here: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_anime_episodes
the only differance is that in the anime, each gereration has many differant series.
