I'm playing platinum and I have been having trouble for days finding a shiny noctowl, ive set the code for noctowl only in Pokemon modifier codes so that only noctowl appears, ive continued my chain and have encountered more than 100 of them n still no shiny patch although the probability is 1/200

No. Having the radar set on Y won't end your chain.
it won't i know but will it reset the probability of encountering a shiny pokemon?
No; having the radar on Y doesn't do anything negative to your chances of getting a shiny.
All it does is makes a new set of patches apear. If u never reset in a chain your chain will break
Okay, to confirm, the chance of getting your shiny is increased depending on how big your chain is. :3

>You should register your PokeRadar and unregister other items. Using one more Key Item breaks the chain.

So this encourages the player to register the PokeRadar. Therefore, the PokeRadar creates no negative effects in chaining. :)

Remember, just because it is a 20 times better chance of finding a shiny, it is still 1 in 200 chance of getting a shiny. You know how on Serebii's Pokearth - it has the percentages on how often Pokemon will appear in that route? If it said 1% chance, that is literally 1 in 100. So double that - and that's how hard it is to find a shiny. Don't get your hopes up too high.

Also, once your chain passes 40 you can just soft reset from that point on since it could break your chain, and you'll have to do it all over again. xD

Hope I helped. :)

This is DPPt where you can only register one key item, and therefore there isn't any way you can select something other than the Radar.
but why reset? why not continue the search in the chain?
Resetting the Poke Radar *is* continuing to search in the chain.

When you come out of a patch of grass, new patches will shake. If none meet your criteria (since chaining has specific criteria for grass), you walk 50 steps to recharge & use your radar again, which will make random patches in the grass shake once more. It doesn't reset your chain; you're only resetting the patches of shaking grass so that you find the grass that you want, since walking into a patch of grass that doesn't meet your criteria will break your chain.
Er... Fondant, do you wanna answer this question? I mean, I misread the question and you seem worthy of answering.
I kinda just did in the comment. Too lazy to make a real answer.
Also I think part of the problem is that OP forced their game to only encounter Noctowls (I think that's what one of their other Qs said).
yup i did but i think that doesnt matter but the chain can still be broken
I can't say, since I've never chained with a cheat. It might have done something to your game.
Why would you cheat to make something easier when you could cheat to easily obtain it without having to legitimately catch it?
I dunno,  maybe he still wanted a challenge xD
I think I remember their old Q saying that using the cheat to obtain a shiny Noctowl froze their emulator?

It shouldn't matter, but what your cheat code is doing is replacing a Pokemon with noctowl yet treating this "noctowl" as a different Pokemon. So you're simply just chaining different Pokemon yet only noctowl are appearing.

Hope I helped :D?
