One of my friends has a Charizard that takes minor damage from water type Pokemon and has no IV or EV training. Is it possible to train a Pokemon to resist its weakness? I'm trying it because he advised me to do it - My Level 51 Beartic takes 35% damage from 38-40 wild Heatmors that uses Flame Burst.

Your friend could have mega evolved their Charizard, or was just facing a really low level Pokemon.
Ok thanks I'm just getting back to pokemon. He showed me a battle of him facing of against his older brother his pokemon weren't EV trained just the way he trains them his older brothers team was EV trained all of them and he won over his big brother.

No, there isn't a direct way to remove a Pokemon's weaknesses, your friend is lying. It was probably a coincidence that Charizard took such little damage from Water attacks (or perhaps sunlight was in play, which would weaken Water moves).

However, there are ways to remove weaknesses, but you'll be forfeiting ability and item slots, so sometimes they wouldn't be recommended. Some include:

  • There are many berries in the game that lower damage from certain moves, eg. Wacan Berry weakens a super effective Electric attack. However these aren't really recommended since there is generally going to be a better item to use. Other items like Air Balloon can do a similar thing.
  • Certain abilities such as Flash Fire, Thick Fat, Water Absorb, etc. can weaken or give your Pokemon an immunity to certain types of attacks. The Pokemon that can use these abilities is limited though.
  • Some moves, such as Magnet Rise can remove weaknesses (eg. Magnezone loses its Ground weakness after using Magnet Rise.

But there isn't a way to train your Pokemon to resist an attack, sorry.

Sadly, you cannot teach a Pokemon to resist its type weakness.

Your friend might have been mistaken or it's just that his Charizard is facing weak water type Pokemon that won't do much damage using Super Effective attacks because they have a weak sp.atk or atk. Or he got some EV training accidentaly when facing wild Pokemon that gave Sp.def or Def?
The possibilities are endless! But sadly we poor souls cannot teach resisting types to our Pokemon.
