I want to know how to use Bastiodon as a competitive Pokemon, like should he be a wall, a tank etc. I'm new to the competitive play, although I've been playing Pokemon for a long time now, so please don't expect me to understand an answer filled with that vocabulary.

Bastiodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Roar
- Magic Coat

Bastiodon has great Defense and Special Defense while his Attack isn't so great, so people use him has a tanker or a Wall.
Bastiodon has weakness. Rock and Steel types isn't the best in the world.. Weak to Water, Ground and Fight, but has many resistances.
However it can be OHKO (Sturdy can help you) by a strong STAB Earthquake that are very commons in competitive.
The most comuns have Stealth Rocks and Toxic. Roar is a great attack for clear off the stats boosts of the enemie and Magic Coat for retaliate some attacks since he has great defenses.
Bastiodon is walled by Taunt and since he wasn't speed, you need to switch out forcing a lose of some HP.
Magic Coat can be replaced by Stone Edge or Earthquake.
Bastiodon is at NU tier, so you can use it in many tier.

Hope this helps.

Let's be honest here - while Bastiodon has high defenses, his typing is crap. Weak to many common moves, and it's too slow to really do anything other than come in on a status Pokemon, and magic coat stuff or set up rocks.

Smogon suggests:
Bastiodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Magic Coat
- Toxic

NU (never used) tier, so that should be a little hint as to its viability in competitive.

There's a move called that that would wreck this
bastidon is my counter to primal groudon tho. sturrdy + metal burst wrecks anything. toxic is allso useful.
