PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I've been away for awhile due to work and came back to the site once I heard of Mr Iwata's death
( I know I'm late to this, but sadly I just found out ).
Thus I was checking the home page of the site and I saw the Zygarde's form post.
While I'm not impressed by the forms (a scarfed dog and a Gundam with a tail, really Nintendo??) I saw something that really seemed weird.

The Greninja in the image at first seemed off in comparison of my Greninja, but I hadn't played in a while so I decided to check on Google's Image.

Thus it occured to me.

Is that a Mega Evolution?

I haven't seen a question about it on the page, so I'm quite curios to find out.
Is it something you guys figured out and discussed already and I'm just late to the party, OR
it just passed unnoticed due to the low quality of the image?

Let me know what you guys think!

That, my friend, is called Satoshi Greninja. Also known as Ash Greninja and Greninjash by the fans, it is unsure what it is at this time. There are some people who believe it is a Mega Evolution due to the addition of water "swords". Others take the slightly different color scheme and think it will be akin to Cosplay Pikachu, which is further supported by how it resembles Ash. Still others think it will be like Eternal Flower Floette, technically the same species as Greninja but with different stats.

In short, nobody is 100% certain what it is yet.

EDIT: This just in from Serebii:

>It also describes Ash-Greninja as the form that Greninja takes when the bond between it and Ash is raised to the limit. The strength of their bond changes Greninja's appearance, and it takes on the characteristic look of Ash's attire. This phenomenon is also said to have happened just once several hundred years ago in the Kalos region, but it remains shrouded in mystery.

This is almost the exact same description as Mega Evolution.

Going for cosplay greninja if it is mega game freak has killed mega evolution for me by giving something that is already broken another reason to be even more broken
Greninja is the new Kangaskhan :O
That means, if we get to customize our trainer in the new games, we get to change the way Greninja looks?
Astro, brother, thanks for the answer! :)
So that means we will have, hypothetically, a new way of transforming our 'mons?
A momentary transformation dictated by affection, like a Mega but without the need of a stone.
It makes sense, but I can see how it would ultimately lead to some broken Pokémons...
I just hope Nintendo handles it well.
