Is Parasect still alive?

Question

When I was reading through about Parasect, this one Pokedex entry in Ultra Sun said that "the bug is mostly dead, with the mushroom on it back". Honestly, that throws me off. In other words, is Parasect a living Pokemon? Or am I seeing something different? (Besides the game and the anime)

No. It's possessed by the Mushroom on it's back. So it's basically a Zombie.

The large mushroom on its back controls it. It often fights over territory with Shiinotic.

A mushroom grown larger than the host’s body controls Parasect. It scatters poisonous spores.

So Paras dies and then evolves into an undead Parasect under the effect of shrooms?

I'm pretty sure "dead" usually refers to having the brain completely dysfunctional. In Parasect's case, the brain is still controlling the Parasects movements, though the brain in turn is being controlled by the mushroom. Since the brain is still working in a way, I don't think Parasect would be considered technically dead.

There's actually a parascect in super mystery dungeon that says "I, the mushroom, now have full control."

BTW, the parascect found in SMD is found on the wind continent. It mentions as a paras, as does fellow mushroom pokemon brelloom, that it likes the wind continent because it helps spread its spores. so we can expect a parasect-mushroom zombie apocalypse in the next mystery dungeon game.
