How to change main player Pokémon in Super Mystery Dungeon?

I've been wondering this for awhile, and I can't seem to find anything online about it, everyone just says it activates in Chaper 6 and I'm on Chapter 7. I don't mean in dungeons, I mean in the towns.

I don't know, that's what I want to figure out. I've seen other people play as things other than the available starters and their evolutions.

Restart the game from the beginning. There is no other way to change character in the game.
