In lets go is there a way to chain a Pokemon without catching?

So I don't actually have a switch but still if I get lets go can I do it? I like keeping my original team but if I have a team of like starter and 5 Weedle's that would be not the best team.

To chain Pokémon, you have to catch them.

You need to catch Pokemon if you want to chain. So you can't chain using any of your first 5 Pokemon if you want your first 6 to be different.
