Is this Ferroseed glitched?

I was fighting a Ferroseed, however, half of its body was in the terrain. Is this natural or a bug?

It's a seed. Seeds go into the ground.

That's just what Ferroseed looks like this generation. When attacking, it probably jumped up out of the ground, and fired off some of its body spikes, yes?
