Ash only substituted his Pokemon when they defeated another one, in Unova, Kalos, and Alola leagues. For example, Pikachu and Dewott are battling; Ash wants to use another Pokemon, so he waits to beat Dewott, and then he will use another Pokemon.

He wouldn't do what he did in the Orange Islands and all those places. For example, Ash's Lapras and a Dragonite are battling; Lapras has taken a lot of damage. Ash will substitute straight away, not defeat Dragonite with his Lapras first. Why is that?

What game are you asking about?
I assumed all of them.
You can recall/switch your Pokemon to a teammate on any turn, unless you're trapped or have no conscious teammates.
I was talking about the anime.
First, this is supposed to be a comment, not an answer. Second, that was not mentioned in the tags, title, or description. You can't ask people to give you an answer for something you didnt exactly specify.
Yes in all games and the anime but they choose not to for some reason

Ok, I’m going to answer this the way you wanted it to be answered. But first, I’m going to say that the answer given was perfectly fine. You didn’t ever say that you were referring to the anime, and he is correct about the boxes. So, next time, I recommend specifying about what you’re asking, because people put work into answers, and then saying that you were asking something completely different, when you hadn’t mentioned it before, that just wastes their time.

Anyway, yes, trainers have added Pokémon to their team during the anime. In the XYZ saga, Ash adds Goodra to his team halfway through the Pokémon League.

I hope you enjoyed this answer.

Listen to the first paragraph.  True advice.
Sorry, that was my second question ever I think. I hadn't got any experience back then.

What I tried to ask was...

Know what I mean?
Yeah I’ve seen him call back Pokémon due to things like status, or if they’re worn out.

In generations 1-7, up to Alola, no. You had to stick with the maximum of six you brought to the League.

However, in LGP/E, the boxes are available anywhere, allowing you to change team members between battles. In Sw/Sh, unlike LGP/E, you are unable to access the boxes during the League.

Hope I helped!

Actually, you cannot access the boxes in SwSh in the league. As for LGPE, I can't remember though. Gen 1-7, obviously not
Dude, his source is experience.
I received the Mystery Gift Galarian forms from last month while in the league, tried to get them off my team, then couldn't because I couldn't access the box
Are you sure? I must be remembering wrong, sorry! I'll edit that.
It's fine, everyone makes mistakes
You also can't access them during Gym Challenges.
