Final Gambit - How does it work?

Hi, I was just thinking of a final gambit Lucario set. I had a quick google and I find some people talking about how Staraptor was a bad user of Final Gambit because of its low special attack. The post can be seen here
I just don't want to get my hopes up but does special attack affect final gambit at all? Because on the website, it says Final Gambit is a special move.

Final Gambit does damage equal to the amount of HP the user has. Then the user faints. This is a set damage move just like moves like Seismic Toss, Night Shade, etc.
