I know that the number on the Gen 8 gym leaders and rivals, and the player as well mean something. But what do they mean? (For example, the only one I know is that Milo’s number on his uniform means “Veggie”.)

Gym leaders
Milo:

The logo of Turffield Orchards can be seen on the uniforms of Milo and Turffield Stadium Gym Trainers.
Milo's uniform number is "831", which can be read in Japanese as goroawase for 野菜 yasai, meaning "vegetables".

Nessa:
