In Pokemon Ranger, is having your stylus run out of power the equivalent of blacking out in a main series game?

Or, for simplicity, when all your Pokemon faint. I'm pretty sure it is.

I'm asking this because the way the leader guy phrased it made it seem like there was no going back and you'd have to restart the game.

When your Stylus runs out of power, you are transported back to the last save state. The Stylus can be recharged at any Ranger Base
