Does the virtual console thing still work for the Wii?

Question

So apparently you can buy digital games from outdated consoles on Wii wii you and 3ds. I don't have a Wii you or 3ds but I do have the wii. So can I still buy digital gen1 and 2 games on the wii? Cause I would want to get red and crystal if it still does exist.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe the Gen 1 and 2 games were ever on the Wii.

Virtual Console titles are purchased through the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS, and the Wii Shop Channel on the Wii. Unfortunately:

The ability to purchase, download, and play new content on the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS was discontinued for the rest of the world on March 27, 2023.

The Wii Shop Channel was discontinued in January 2019 as well.

Even if it was still possible to purchase games through the Wii Shop Channel, Gen I and Gen II games were never available anywhere except the 3DS. Only Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Puzzle League, and Super Smash Bros. were obtainable for the console.
