Is there any reason why shuppet evolves into banete?

Question

why does a little blue rag ghost evolve into a grey plush zipper bedtime doll?
they have almost nothing in common: blue - gray, abstract and floating - plush and walking, even their eyes are so different?
and shuppet is a puppet and mega banete looks like a marionettist, could my theory lead to something?
is this a magikarp-gyarados situation?

According to Bulbapedia, Shuppet may be based on a hand puppet or a teru teru bōzu. So the logic kinda makes sense with the line being puppet, doll/marionette, but at the same time, not everything is logical in Pokemon.

Although Shuppet has always reminded me of a used tissue.
