How does safeguard interact with spicy spray?

Does it protect you from burn or does it treat it as being self-inflicted?

Safe guard isn’t in champions and showdown won’t let me use scovillan in nat dex for some reason. If I where to test this with another contact ability like static would that be enough to answer your question?

Do flame body instead r the great, it’s closer to spicy spray than static

I don't think this can be answered confidently, since all other status-inducing abilities require contact.
