How does safeguard interact with spicy spray?

Does it protect you from burn or does it treat it as being self-inflicted?

Safe guard isn’t in champions and showdown won’t let me use scovillan in nat dex for some reason. If I where to test this with another contact ability like static would that be enough to answer your question?

On showdown it shows safeguard as being in champions. I basically want a way to hit scovillain with a mega ttar and not get burned. Any other ideas to do this then post them as a comment.

Safe guard does protect your Pokemon from spicy spray. Go to turn 3 of the replay if you want to see for yourself
