Screw merging the server. Let our community stay together.

Question

The server has never been very large. But it's a place where the ideals and values of the Pokebase community can be expressed without constriction by the overly authoritarian ways of the rest of the internet. Sure it has it downs, especially lately. But I still enjoy being on it and being with the other members of this community.

Anyways, we should probably ask Pokemaster what he thinks, considering he hosts the server and all that.

Merging the server, what is going on? I've been a tad bit inactive the last two weeks so I have no idea what this is about.
Edit: Just went on the server, and why weren't we informed about this? As I say I've been less active, especially the first week of September, but this is ridiculous. No notice, no message on the intro, no information whatsoever, who was in charge of this?

I am not against a server merge per see, for the DB one have been quite desolate lately and it could be fun to meet new people, but this seems like a very underhand way to handle it, and there are a lot of thing I'd like information about.
When was this agreed upon?
By who?
What server are we merging with?
Who are alt there?
Will justified banned users on the DB server and site carry over?

At the very least I think we would all appreciate some justification behind this (seemingly) executive decision and a reason as to why the active server users weren't asked. This should have, at the very least, been brought up in the Staff room instead of informing us via room intro.  This seems incredibly lazy and irresponsible.

This whole issue is now being resolved.

As Mike said, it's "resolved" although there was never really an issue. I'll start with a little backstory and then you can choose whether you believe me or not as I'm sure some of you will not. I don't care either way.

I've been on PS for around 3 years now and the DB for just under that. Both of which are great communities but I now have a different commitment now which I'm being paid for which has pulled me away from the community as you've probably noticed. For some of you that may be good news and I understand that.

As for why I created the idea of the fake merge and yes it may seem a little over the top but it was 100% worth it and worked as I intended. The idea behind it was to cause an upset with those who still valued the server and to make them do something about it. The DB is well-known for having those who like to protest and debate as well as prove me wrong so I knew that an event such as a merge will make users come back to the server more regularly to prove me wrong. You didn't disappoint either. A whole protest post was more than I expected but worked even better as that upset meant that more of you came on the server more often in such a short space of time after the post had been made. But it wasn't just activity I wanted to boost, with me leaving the server needed someone else to watch over it and the upset helped me make the decission on who would be the new Admins. Speaking about the new Admins I'd like to congratulate both Mike and Mew for stepping up.

I understand the anger from no-one being informed on the merge but that was all intentional. PM, the Staff and the server you were going to "merge" with were all told that it was a legitimate merge and if you're reading this PM, I apologise :)
The reason I kept you out is because without you, the server will break and be outdated and I hoped that the upset from the merge would make you try and stick more to the 'Update every Monday policy' which benefitted the server greatly. There's no pressure on you to keep to that though as I know you're busy.

With all that being said, I've enjoyed every moment I've spent on the DB and it's server and I am very grateful for the opportunities that I was given by PM after he took over the server hosting.
You're a good man PM, and you've created an equally good community and that is something you should be very proud of.

Hahaha, funny. I know I said ages ago I would reset the server to the original version (i.e. Zarel's repo), will try and get that sorted when I can... been super busy at work the past few weeks.
