A lot of members (myself included) would appreciate a forum based board. The Q&A section of the site has a lot of high quality questions and answers. We don't really have a place to discuss matters more casually (The Chat Room is basically dead at this point) and a Discord server would work well. Not only is it easy to make and maintain, but it's a chat program that's very popular among gamers. I'm sure PM has plans to make an official forum, but this would work well as an easy and simple solution

I know this may be a stupid question, but how is Discord different or better than the chat room or the Showdown! server?
Advantages to Chat Room: More than one chat channel for multiple topics, image and file sharing, voice channels

Advantages to Showdown!: Similar advantages to the Chat Room as well as being easier to handle (afaik Showdown servers can be difficult to maintain).

In general it's just a much more widespread and advantageous platform. Not only is it easier to moderate but it could even be a faster way for PM to deliver small news about the site.

I forgot to mention you can @ people to have more direct conversations, and you can even @everyone to alert people of changes.
I think it would still be better to keep a forum on this site, since it still has plenty of functionality that Discord doesn't. But making a public server in addition to it is a good idea, most online communities do this nowadays.
It's also something we can literally start right now, if we want. A link in the sidebar would be nice, but a thread should get the message out for everyone who'd be interested.
Yeah, it's an instantaneous and easy way to get a simple forum for the DB. A link on the sidebar wouldn't be hard to implement, and a thread would be a good way to introduce it. Heck, we could even make the DB mods the mods on the server, and have PM be the owner. Just some food for thought.

I haven’t used Discord before but it doesn’t seem to be a forum, just a chat room. And if our own chat room here is quiet, I’m not sure that a Discord would suddenly be busy. It would also require people to make yet another account just to chat.

Also I’m not keen on handing over to an external service I have no control over. If Discord goes bust, or more likely people move onto the next hot new thing (remember when everyone used MSN Messenger?) then there may not be a way to move posts to another platform.

There doesn’t really seem to be any advantage over using Showdown or our own chat room.

It actually is. Since I have a Discord server with only people of this site, I know that people are more active then on here.
Wait, you have a discord server? With people only from this site? Since when?
@Gekky A month or 2 ago I guess.
Yeah, there's like 1/4 my friendlist there :P (including me of course)
