Seeing as you've been around a bit more Pokemaster, I want to turn your attention to a few features that I think would make PokeBase a lot easier use and manage. Going to try to keep this simple.
Dealing with 'unresolved' questions
When questions are answered incorrectly but don't break any rules, it presents an issue. Often it is worth keeping these posts up if they're insightful, or signal to others not to answer a certain way. However, leaving them as answers causes the question to be removed from the unresolved list, and lose the red colour in navigation.
While we do have subcategories in the unanswered list that can pick up some threads like this, they're so full of questions that are actually resolved properly that it's not helpful at all. We need a systemic way to flag questions as unresolved; adding them to the unanswered list, giving them the red colour and maybe a notice like how it works on closed questions.
One solution is to set it so questions with the unresolved
tag get this special treatment. Or maybe add a feature that lets us press a button to do those things. Either way, some means of giving these questions visibility would be brilliant.
A better way to report users
Our current system involves using a Google Doc to report issues. We have the permissions to access its responses, and then deal with issues. The issue is that the system does not notify us when there's a new report, and the person who sends the report still has no way to privately receive a verdict.
The system sucks, and the alternative of leaving an answer on the above thread has a history of stirring unnecessary drama. The best solution is to integrate something into PokeBase to deal with this. Some ideas for how we could address this:
- Fix up the private messaging system and add it to the site. This would also be a nice feature to have in general.
- Add a 'mod mail' system. (Yes I lifted this idea from Reddit.) Basically, users can submit a message that pages every mod into a private conversation.
Moving questions between the sections
When the forum section comes to fruition, this one is going to be necessary. Already, it would be extremely useful to have. When the forum comes along and adds another dimension to our organisation, the problem of new users posting in the wrong place will only worsen.
