Meta-PokéBase Q&A

The reason for this was recently, a dupe account of josh cool(an infamous troll on the site) managed to sneak into the Discord and proceeded to harass mods. I was thinking maybe, add your discord here: https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/meta/68342/what-is-your-discord-username-and-tag? and then someone DMs you a link to the discord.

@Azelfeo But verification bots are far to easy to bypass. I'm assuming that by "Verification bot" you're referring to one of those bots where you just react to a bot message and get a role automatically. In that case, a verification bot is even easier to bypass than the verification post.
I mean i guess its not that bad. He's just a troll, a very annoying one, but still a troll. It is pretty fun tronolling him when he's the one who was supposed to be trolling
He is not a troll. He's been trying to get onto this site for at least a year, made 50+ different accounts, nearly all of which have been super easy to tell that it's him, and he is very bad at pretending to be a different person. Most trolls will not be that persistent, especially if they don't ever get anywhere. There is no way that he's a troll. It's hard to believe, but think about it. Look at each of the accounts he's made. The similarities between each of them will show very obviously that he's terrible at pretending to be a completely different person.
@♥ ~P e k o c h u~ ♥ Well yeah, but I was also referring to the more advanced bots, that require you to sign into your account on a verification page (PM would have to implement account syncing tho). After you sync your account with Discord and prove you're a DB user through verification methods, it would give you the role automatically.
@Azelfeo Oh, okay then. That sounds like a good idea.

We definitely appreciate your concern with idiots spamming our DMs, but I think we've come to the conclusion that adding extra layers of verification would be more bother than it's worth. I imagine it'd be annoying to wait for somebody to send you an invite link, and I don't think that extra step is worth it just to accommodate one internet troll.

The way I see it is that we mods should simply turn off our personal server DMs if we're bothered by people doing this, instead of inconveniencing the community at large. I'm not so stressed about it though, since it's pretty easy to just block each alt and close the DM.

Keep us updated with any ideas you have to improve the verification system, though. It'd be nice if we had an account sync feature, but I'd guess that to be pretty far down Pokemaster's list of priorities.
