Suggestion: Add a way to save your answer when you're still typing it.

Question

You might be working on a long answer to a question. If you had accidentally click away, then all your progress would be gone. It doesn't even have to be a click away. It could be something as simple as not noticing your low battery. Or, you might be tired of typing up the answer and you want to take a break.

To avoid losing progress, I suggest adding a button that can save our work so you won't have to type your answer all over again. It could be a Save Your Work button, but your answer would still be hidden from every one else. Then when you're done, you can post your answer.

In the end, it will just be a little way to save your work so if something were to happen, your work could still be saved. If it's possible, it could even be an auto save.

You could just copy it every time you write a paragraph for instance.  I do this in case my tablet kicks me out of my tab and I lose my progress.

I do what jhnfui does as well. I just open wordpad and type my answer there after every couple paragraphs just to be safe

Why can't you just... "Answer" and say "I'm still making this"? I don't recall any rule against that. :p

Read the comments below my answer. Granted, I don't think it's very well publicized, but I think it's now a rule nonetheless. Or if it's not a rule then it's discouraged at the least.

The answer wouldn't be shown to the public unless you press Post an Answer as usual. It will be like the chat or a question. Nobody would be able to see your answer yet.

If you're using a desktop, you can pin the tab to stop yourself from accidentally closing it. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+T to re-open a tab you accidentally closed -- all modern browsers hold onto input fields for some time after you close the tab.

I'm not talking about exiting the tab, I'm  talking about if you accidentally go back to the previous page. Then, your answer will be gone. Also, most of the time, I don't work on a desktop because two important keys, T and Y don't work. I find it a whole lot easier to work on my phone.

Here's a tip, if its a long answer, type on a different program first like work or notepad to save. If its a short one, then you didn't lose that much work anyways.

You can copy paste whatever you wrote, so you can paste it right back. You can also press Alt+Back Arrow to go back, though I don't know if your work will still be there.
