Descriptions on teams are 100% necessary. I have noticed that sometimes when a team lacks a description and has a questionable set, I don't have a clue on whether that choice is actually necessary or is just a random choice made from the team builder not being sure.

Take this team as an example: https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/rmt/60403/rate-my-gen-8-ou-sun-team

I consider this team a great example of why we need descriptions. The descriptions help me know certain things, like the fact that the team's Heatran only knows Flash Cannon just for filler and not because of STAB boost. I'm even told what the specific uses for Skarmory's utility moves are. It's helpful to know Whirlwind was actually being used for a specific threat rather than general use.

Contrast to this team: https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/rmt/60434/rate-my-gen-8-ou-sun-team

Here I can identify that this may be a newer player, but at the same time I have some questions about set choices. Specifically the team's Venusaur knows both Giga Drain and Solar Beam, but I don't feel confident saying to swap one out because I don't have a description telling me that this is needed for the specific set. In-fact, most of these choices seem questionable, but I don't know if the person actually needs their Whimsicott on the team or something.

Basically not knowing what some team choices are for leads to bad rates that end up having to assume information. I'm suggesting that each pokemon on a RMT needs to have a substantive description (the text "Ice Punch is for coverage" is not ok but rather "Ice Punch hits Landorus-T and Garchomp for high damage") to allow raters to be able to provide better rates. It also helps team publishers reinforce what roles their choices play on their team.

Maybe I'm overreacting over having to assume information on a team rather than knowing if I a making a good rate. At the same time I feel that there is a good reason that Smogon also requires descriptions on RMTs and that requiring them here too would be significantly helpful for anyone who wishes to help.

Note that this won't affect teams that are already published at the time of approval. (if it does get approved that is.)

(I mean no offense to whoever posted these teams by the way. I just considered them good examples on this topic)

I agree with your points, and almost the same suggestion was popular in the moderation survey that finished recently. It will likely to be implemented some time soon, alongside a host of other things we'll push all together.

I think the rule will be lenient (e.g. a couple proper sentences is enough), but unhelpful descriptions like "Ice Beam for coverage" and "Swords Dance for attack boost" will still be discouraged in some way.

Let us know anything else that you think would improve the RMT section.
