Meta-PokéBase Q&A

Hey all :)

I am currently getting back into competitive online battling in SwSh, and I am starting with the Battle Tower (Singles). Unfourtunately, I am kinda bad at competitive, so I went to Fizz's wall, and said this:

~~

Hello Fizz :D Wanted to ask a question, can I ask these two questions? I wanted your opinion on these. I don't know what to name them, but they would be similar to and igtq, like what is a good in game team for sword and shield, but something like

"What is a good team for the SwSh Battle Tower Singles format" and same with doubles. The question itself is a little wordy but i can work on that. i was just thinking that the question itself might be something good to have on Pokebase maybe? i think that if i did it without saying i would get an answer like "you will be better off asking here link to smogon or something idk. if you say yes i might need a little help doing the formatting and stuff, as there have been problems in the last few days with wrong formatting for some moveset questions.

thanks again in advance for helping :3

like an ongiong thread

~~

I hope that explains it all :) Fizz came back to me with this reply.

> Having that question effectively commits us to allowing a similar thread for every game (and different battle facility, etc). I'm not opposed to it, but I think you should suggest it on Meta to see if other people think it would be good as well.
> It's a balancing act of how useful the threads would be and the bother they might cause if they're bumped up as often as the moveset threads.

~~

So here I am! What do you think of adding threads for all of the battle towers and such, for singles and doubles? I am not sure how many there are, but I think that it could be good, maybe even add a new tag (a bit like msq/lcmsq/igtq)?

Feel free to give your opinions, thanks! (Hope you're on board with it :D)

Edit: These would not be posted randomly at all, they can be asked by ONE person only to avoid confusion, maybe a mod or something; I would be happy to do it though, as they are asked ONCE and only come up again when a new generation adds a new battle facility. These would not be posted in RMT, because I guess it is not about rating teams, and doesn't really fit in. In RMT, you give a team + explanation, it gets rated. These threads are like moveset questions and they fit in Pokebase; a question is given ("What is a good team for the Battle Tree" or something like that. Title needs work), and people answer with THEIR teams, so not on the RMT.
Hope I helped!

Edit 2: I finally did it! After a couple months because (a) I'm icompetent, (b) I'm busy with school/exams/revision and all that, (c) I only have 3 brain cells, and (d) all of the above, I have added all of the bftqs up until Generation 8! It took way longer than it should have done because of being inactive, but I am super happy I got it done nonetheless. Thank you for answering the questions, I really appreciate that I was able to do this! I will update the Generation 8 question when BDSP comes out, and if Legends Arceus does have something (maybe not though), that will probably go in Generation 8; And when Generation 9 eventually comes out, I can create a new one for that too.

Thanks again!

I feel like this could be interesting if we did it for major formats like vgc, along with that, so I support this. It might flood the DB at the beginning, but I think in a month it should settle down.
I personally would love this. And maybe to control flooding they could do what they did for LC movesets, and only Editors+ can post them or something similar?
I definitely think this would be very useful. Personally, I've not had much of an interest in competitive, and because I've never really bothered to try to learn too much, (assuming that you do need some sort of competitive knowledge to do well in the battle facilities. Either that, or I'm just really bad) I've never been able to do the battle facilities well, so I haven't been able to get any of the rewards you can get from them. I'm going to guess that there are other people in this same situation, so I think that this would be a great idea. We should definitely restrict these open ended thread type questions to be posted by at least experts+, as it would greatly help reduce flooding.
@Kyogre @HT, I think that might not be nessecary, as there are a limited amount of questions on this topic we can ask, the LC flood was unpredictable and unorganised, they just kinda happened a lot. With this we might just ask all of them at once to avoid confusion or major flooding

Also i guess i could just make a format soon and ask them all myself instead possibly? (thanks for support btw, glad people like it!)
@TPB I'm pretty sure that Fizz won't agree with adding such formats. You can check this:
https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/meta/74014/suggestion-make-post-thread-where-people-submit-their-teams

I agree with restricting them to experts+ or editors+.

Also, imo this should only be limited to in-game battle facilities. About PS tiers and all, I had suggested once before and Fizz didn't approve of it.
Why don't you just post these teams in RMT?
I don’t like the idea. I think this would be too many threads :(
No clue how this would be too many threads. There's a moveset thread for each fully evolved Pokemon, LC moveset threads for many of the unevolved Pokemon, and a thread for in game teams for each game.
So, let's see exactly how many and which threads we'd be posting. Reference: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Battle_facility
* C Battle Tower
* R/S Battle Tower
* E Battle Frontier (Tower, Pyramid, Palace, Pike, Dome, Arena, Factory) (one thread or seven?)
* E Trainer Hill
* E/FR/LG Trainer Tower
* D/P Battle Tower
* Pt/HG/SS Battle Frontier (Tower, Factory, Arcade, Castle, Hall) (one thread or five?)
* B/W/B2/W2 Battle Subway
* B/W/B2/W2 Battle Institute
* B2/W2 PWT
* X/Y/OR/AS Battle Institute
* X/Y/OR/AS Battle Maison
* S/M/US/UM Battle Royal Dome
* S/M/US/UM Battle Tree
* US/UM Battle Agency
* Sw/Sh Battle Tower
* Sw/Sh (IoA) Master Dojo
* BD/SP Battle Tower (presumably, maybe even the Frontier again)
It actually is quite a lot, especially if we do separate threads for the facilities at the Battle Frontier. I'm still not opposed to it, but do other people think we should have these threads? People sound like they're in favour so far?
A staggared start is good, maybe two/three a week or something?
I down-voted this suggestion because you still haven't told me why this is better than simply telling everyone to post these teams in RMT.
The purpose of these threads is different to the purpose of the RMT section.
When you post a team to the RMT section, you're making a request for feedback -- the implication being that you know the team has flaws, and want help fixing them.
Conversely, "What is a good team for [battle facility] in [game]?" threads would get answers from people who believe their team is optimised. This would be detailed in the description of the threads. That doesn't mean that other people couldn't comment and suggest changes -- but the content you expect to find in those threads would not be the same as on the RMT section.
I believe these threads would work because each facility has a static set of possible opponents (not unlike in-game playthroughs), meaning strategies can be "optimised" to a much greater degree than competitive teams.
In that case, I think we should ask only one question for each generation.
Why do you think so? For example, wouldn't answers for Emerald's Battle Arcade vary quite a lot to Emerald's Trainer Hill?
People can just put different teams in the same question. I don't think it's worth cluttering up Pokebase that much.
"People can just put different teams in the same question." But that isn't what we do for things like in game teams. if someone has two completely different teams, they are different answers.
They are different answers on the same question.
@sumwun i'm not sure i understnad?
If someone has 2 completely different teams for RSE, he/she/they/it posts 2 different answers, but both of them are on the "What is a good in-game team for Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald?" question. So someone with a Battle Pike team and a Trainer Hill team can post 2 answers in the "What is a good battle facility team for Generation 3?" question.
maybe. i understand now, but i don't think I fully agree. maybe we should get a second opinion on this idea :)
If we went the direction of posting one thread per generation, we could list all the possible battle facilities in the question description and require that people nominate all the ones that apply. I think it could potentially be annoying to navigate (example: if you wanted a Battle Institute team, you'd have to scroll past Battle Maison only teams), but there would be less threads to post and keep control of.
I think we should post these threads in some form, but which way is better?
Hey all. I have though about this idea quite a bit more, and I think that in the desctription (take XY/ORAS for example), it could say something "please post battle teams for the Battle Institute or the Battle Maison"

what do you all think? (im working on the format) Im open to suggestions!
Hey again. I talked to Fizz on Discord, and we have decided I am going to ask these one by one but spread out enough so that it doesn't clog up the main section. Again, if you have anything you need to ask, post it here :D

Also, I have created a new tag: bftq, or battle facility team question. This can be removed is necessary :)
Do we really need these threads? They have been very dead and in the three months they have at maximum, like two answers.
They don't do any harm.
