Please grant us the ability to remove messages from the chatroom

Question

I am once again proposing that staff have the ability to remove messages from the chatroom. It would be much easier to hide NSFW content and suspicious links in a dead chatroom that way

I suggest all staff, including Experts, to have this

Someone literally just posted their phone number in chat so I am once again desperately bumping this. Just let me delete messages instead of spamming. Please. I’m begging you.

Sometimes it’s allowed on meta under certain situations, like age and situation. Up to fizz if he’d rather there be a new post or bump the old one (personally I think enough time has passed and pm never even addressed the other one)

I'm totally on-board with this suggestion! Someone literally just put their fricking phone number in the chat and there's nothing we can do about it.
(Edit: PX spammed the chat to get rid of it but then again, that's highly inconvenient.)

At first I thought this was asked after I put the lyrics of a song in the chat a few hours ago and got really scared LMAO.
Now that we're at it, is posting the lyrics of a song when it's completely dead allowed? It doesn't annoy anyone since nobody's in the chat and isn't really spamming since it's not posting the same thing over and over again or posting nonsense; but I haven't really seen anyone do it so I just wanted to ask. (Don't really plan on doing it again but still wanted to ask just because curiosity.)

Also flagging this for the staff to decide since this is essentially a dupe. :P

I mean I do it :P I remember pm saying like a decade ago if the chats dead then there’s no point in enforcing the no spam rule but that it’s frowned down upon. I’m pretty sure it’s ok since it’s not bothering anyone but @fizz since you’re in charge I’d like your opinion on it.

I like this suggestion, but I’m not sure about experts. I understand that 6000+ isn’t achieved by users with NO self control, but remember how dumb I was (and arguably still am but I’m going to be editor “soon” so I guess I’m doing something right) when I got expert? I’ve seen conflicts between experts in the chat, and I feel like it could be abused.

@As, I thought about that too. But at the same time, if powers are abused, they can just be taken away since it would just show the user isn’t ready for that responsibility in general. It’s a pretty minor thing to abuse, esp if there’s like a limit on messages able to be deleted at a time. Mass deleting irrelevant messages is very minor in comparison to spam editing hundreds of posts and deleting the contents. I feel like if we can’t trust a user to not delete chat messages when not needed, they shouldn’t have editing powers to begin with
