Meta-PokéBase Q&A

As a fan of the Pokémon series, this has long befuddled me. The games repeatedly talk of such things, whatever they are and I am always confused. I have come up with a couple ideas however:
A) an insult to one’s mother
B) an uneaten fly in the corner of your bedroom that torments you by simply existing
C) a frogist (frog racist) insult referring to people who are in team ribbit. Often used by crabs
D) (ok this one’s probably a long shot but here goes) a creature of one or two types that lives alongside humans in the Pokémon series. Each have stats and can evolve into a stronger Pokémon. To catch a Pokémon, you can throw a pokeball and then it is available to battle.
(see I told you it was a long shot)

Anyway everyone seems to expect me to know of such things as Pokémon. If someone were to tell me exactly what a Pokémon is that would be very helpful.

NOTE: don’t link to unreliable sources like bulbapedia thank you!

A Pokémon is a fly in the corner of the room called Pocketus Mondues in Latin. On the 1st of April it leaves its corner to breed and eat enchiladas, it hibernates the rest of the year. If you come into contact with one get it’s number and run, run for dear life, when you get away you can now text it and be friends. However never go near one or they will shred your will to pieces by torturing you for info on Team RIBBIT. In the end just stay away they are too dangerous for you and the entire frog clan.

Okay, now this is going to to sound crazy but...

Pokémon... are
Pocket Monsters.

You catch them with the balls, and then the balls shrink to a size where you can put the monsters you just caught in your pocket. When you need to battle, you take the balls out of your pocket, make them grow, and send out your monster.
