Hey guys, I'm here with a team I made just for fun purposes because I'm really bored with OU. It has some sets not normally seen in OU, but meh. I'm not even going to go for a full on RMT, because this team was made only a week ago, anyways. It's doing all right, my winning margin is definitely above my loss margin. Here's the team.
Politoed (F) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 236 HP / 252 SAtk / 20 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
This is the first time I've tried Choice Specs Politoed, and I have to admit, although it loses the utility of the Defensive sets, it makes up for it using the extraordinary power the Specs provide. EVs allow me outspeed 56 Spd Scizor. The power of the Specs set is mainly because of the rain it provides for the team combined with Specs boosted STAB Hydro Pump. Since this will be a rather short RMT, I'll steal these damage calculations from Smogon's Politoed page:
>Hydro Pump vs. 0/0 Salamence: 68.3% - 80.7%
Hydro Pump vs. 0/0 Naive Salamence: 75.8% - 89.4%
Hydro Pump vs. 0/0 Haxorus: 95.6% - 112.6%
Hydro Pump vs. 0/0 Hydreigon: 63.1% - 74.5%
Hydro Pump vs. 0/0 Rotom-W: 73.14% - 86.36%
The power. But it sucks because Hydro Pump always has to miss when you most need it. Next up is Ice Beam, which batters Dragons such as Latias and Dragonite, whose bulk can let it survive Hydro Pump. Focus Blast is the best I have against Ferrothorn and friends, and it is usually a solid 2HKO, except when Focus Miss comes into play. Hidden Power [Grass] is the strongest move against a terror to rain teams - Gastrodon.
Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Hydration
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
This is the only reason why I decided to build this little team for fun uses. The Hydration wall set is trolly and great for pissing people off. Fully Defensive to patch up Vaporeon's weaker Defensive side. Vaporeon is vital to the team as it can take almost every status thrown at it, almost because weather wars suck :P
The set is rather basic. Scald is STAB and rain boosted, and burns opposing Pokemon with that 30% chance (90% chance on PS! :3), bolstering Vaporeon's Defenses. If the opposing Pokemon seems as if another status cripples them even more, then I'll Poison it with Toxic, wearing them down quickly. Since Vaporeon is completely immune to status in the Rain, Rest is basically free healing, since Hydration gets rid of sleep at the end of the turn. If stat boosters think that Vaporeon is set up fodder, Roar will make them wish that they set up on something else.
Dragonite (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 72 Atk / 252 SAtk / 180 Spd
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Thunder
- Hurricane
- Aqua Tail
- ExtremeSpeed
It's Dragon Dance this, Choice Banded Outrage that. Dragonite is known as a fierce behemoth when it comes to Physical attacking. Unfortunately, Dragonite's base 100 SAtk stat is overshadowed by its 134 Atk stat, but this set put them both into use. EVs allow me to outspeed Timid Magnezone, while SAtk is maximized for more damage output. So, since Dragonite has access to both moves that gain perfect accuracy in the rain, might as well abuse it to its fullest potential. Thunder takes out Pokemon such has Skarmory, who think that Dragonite is a pushover. Hurricane is a bonus for Dragonite, as it gains STAB and hits Pokemon such as Breloom, and it is a spammable move :P
When I reveal my Special moves, Pokemon such as Heatran come in to screw me over, but Aqua Tail gains a rain boost and allows me to strike Ninetales, Hippowdon, and Tyranitar. Since this Dragonite is evidently slower than most Dragonite, I opted for ExtremeSpeed as priority as a way to pick off faster sweepers.
Landorus-T (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- U-turn
My team was a slow as crap, and with some residual damage, Banded Terrakion has a field day with my team. So I went for Choice Scarf Landorus-T - the best of both worlds. EVs allow it to outspeed all Choiced neutral base 100s. Intimidate cushions Physical blows from the crushing Physical onslaughts of OU. For the moves, it's quite standard. Earthquake is obviously the STAB move of choice, as it is base 100 after all. Stone Edge nabs all the Flying Pokemon that decide to get predicted on the very obvious switch, and forms a great EdgeQuake combination with Earthquake. Superpower removes Ferrothorn and the idiotic pink blobs from play, and fits the nature of a Choice Scarfer's playstyle. Finally, U-turn gains momentum for the team, and brings in an appropriate counter to the opponent, if necessary.
Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave
- Power Whip
Special wall, where are you?
Ohai Ferrothorn, you work well in rain. Lets use you, shall we?
So, standard Ferrothorn, as per usual, supporting the team so my sweepers and my Rain wall can annoy the piss out of my opponents. Specially Defensive to take the incoming Thunders and crap that come from the many Rain teams lately.
Stealth Rock provides hazards for the team, and allows Dragonite to get crucial KOs, such as Heatran and Hippowdon. Leech Seed provides a method to the team, especially since I have 2 members weak to Stealth Rock and no Rapid Spinner. Thunder Wave slows down threats for my Dragonite to take on, as well as Specs Politoed. Finally, so Taunt isn't living hell, STAB Power Whip was used to attack and hits decently due to Ferrothorn's decent attack stat, even uninvested.
Weavile (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Ice Shard
- Ice Punch
- Low Kick
Weavile eliminates Pokemon that my team really dislike. Pokemon such as Lati@s, Gliscor, Tyranitar, and Starmie are quite annoying, so Weavile deals with them. The main flaw is its Stealth Rock weakness, making Rapid Spin almost necessary, but I decided that I didn't want to use one because OU Rapid spinners kinda don't combine well with the team. Standard EVs for Physical sweeping. Used to make the EV spread so that I outspeed Starmie, but opposing Weavile began to appear, so I went full on offensive. STAB Pursuit captures the Psychic Pokemon, as well as the Ghost pokemon that are hazardous to the team, like Lati@s, Celebi, and Gengar. Ice Shard is STAB priority that punishes Dragons for being on my opposing side, and picks off weakened sweepers. If Ice Shard isn't powerful enough and I know I can outspeed, Ice Punch can be used instead, and it comes with the added benefit of OHKoing Gliscor, which few Physical Pokemon can boast. Finally, Low Kick allows me to get damage of Tyranitar and Steel friends, and has decent synergy with Night Slash.
