Singles, right?
What kind of playstyle were you hoping to go for when building this team? I ask this because you're running some pokemon that have very conflicting playstyles. For example, Mega Sableye and Unaware Clefable are usually paired together on stall teams, but you have pokemon like Specs Heatran and Scarf Landorus-Therian that simply don't fit on stall.
This looks like a messy Semi-Stall team, and as AnAveragePlayer said, the ambivalence between your choiced Landorus and Heatran, and your defensive MSable and Clefable feels really weird.
Why can't there be offensive Pokemon and defensive Pokemon on the same team?
It's not that there can't be both offensive and defensive Pokemon on a team. It's just that Pokemon of conflicting play-styles do not synergize well together. It really has to do with momentum and the objective of the team. Stall is meant to sit there and be fat and rack up residual damage until the opposing Pokemon faint (or the player rage quits). Stall teams have no momentum. Balance and bulky offense focuses on utilizing both offensive and defensive Pokemon to either deal damage or take damage, respectively. The objective of these teams is to put yourself in an advantageous situation by outplaying the opponent. To do this, balance and bulky offense need some momentum and thus appreciate VoltTurn cores. The type of defensive Pokemon on these types of teams can soak up hits, but they don't sit there are do nothing. Rotom-W can spread status and Volt Switch out, defensive Lando-T can set up Stealth Rocks, Knock Off items and U-Turn, Magic Guard Clef can set up Stealth Rocks, spread status and set up... you get the point. What does Mega Sableye do besides sit there and Recover stall? (usually the Calm Mind variant is not seen on stall.) The answer is nothing, so it loses momentum and puts Pokemon like Landorus and Heatran in non-advantageous situations. Same with Unaware Clef- its meant to soak up damage and stop set up sweepers, thus decimating the opponent's momentum. There's a lot more to it, but this is the premise of how Pokemon thrive in different playstyles based on the objective and moment of those playstyles. And so, there is ambivalence (love the vocab Muguet).
As a stall user myself, I will say that stall teams also need to use momentum. For example, if I only have one or two taunt users on my team, I will need to make sure they're in whenever there's a calm mind Clefable. If a Clefable uses calm mind once, I'm usually forced to p-haze it. As for Sableye, it can be very helpful by switching into status moves like stealth rock, toxic, and taunt.
sumwun, I beg to differ. You're referring to semistall.
Real stall involves bulky pokemons that can take a lot of hits, and who rack up the damage through residual conditions such as toxic or will-o-wisp. They sure have attacks and speed but they're axed towards defensive gameplay.
The team that combines elements of both, such as RedXan's team, is Semi-Stall.
I'm pretty sure no OU Pokemon can just sit there and take hits from anything. As far as I know, all forms of stalling involve predicting switches and coverage moves.
"For example, if I only have one or two taunt users on my team, I will need to make sure they're in whenever there's a calm mind Clefable."
This is not momentum. You've exactly described what stall is- simply sending out a counter to whatever's on the field. If Clefable comes out, then you just send them out as well and Taunt. There's very little risk and prediction in doing so. And while stall does need some sort of skill and prediction (otherwise it would be completely broken, as players with 0 skill could utilize it) you usually need less prediction and skill for stall than other playstyles.
Yeah, but in some cases, like Manaphy, I need to send in a taunt user before it gets one turn to set up. Unfortunately, my stall team is built so that it can also only take Clefable if it has no special attack boosts at all, so the same goes with Clefable.
Unware Clef will do wonders for you. In fact, most stall teams have an Unaware Pokemon because it is easy for opposing teams to gain momentum on them.
Sorry, but I can't use fairy Pokemon or fairy moves. I'm willing to remain low ladder to enforce this policy.
