The reason I gave Lucario an Adrenaline Orb is because I battled my friends and they ALWAYS use Salamence, Arcanine or Mawile so the speed boost would be really helpful. I'm not going to change the Pokemon so just moveset changes, but items can change too. Clefable has 0 speed Evs so that's it can work with Slowking in Trick Room. Thanks!

Gyarados Learnset
Chandelure Learnset

Slowking Learnset
Lucario Learnset

EDIT: Changed Clefable's Flamethrower and Thunder Wave to Reflect and Light Screen. Also given it light clay. Given Chandelure a Choice Scarf to boost speed.

Why not aqua tail on gyrados instead of waterfall? Aqua tail does more dmg and flinch is really unreliable
The chance to flinch is still there though. Waterfall has better accuracy but aqua tail has the same as High Jump Kick, and I ALWAYS miss them on my Blaziken. Also, the chance to flinch on waterfall is better than no flinch chance at all.

Assuming you're playing cartridge without Smogon rules:

  • Salamence needs more power to break threats if it wants to sweep. Sweepers don't care much about HP so long as they can stay alive, and maybe switch into rocks a few times. Run Flyinium Z with Fly to crush something and pick up a boost. Fly being predictable matters less when you're at +2, and is standard.

  • In general when you're picking coverage moves, seriously think about what it is that you're hitting and whether you need the move. Zen Headbutt especially is near unjustifiable over Dragon Claw or Outrage. The latter two get STAB and hit nearly as hard as a super effective Zen Headbutt. They also give you a consistent option to hit targets that take neutral damage from Salamence.

  • This would be my thinking: Zen Headbutt hits Poison and Fighting. Are there any Poison or Fighting types in the meta that wall Salamence if I don't use the move? Not really, and therefore you can focus your attention on something more consistently usable or that hits important threats. This is why Earthquake is so popular on Salamence: it's a strong move that hits Steel types which wall its Dragon/Flying STAB.

  • Chandelure is a really underwhelming Life Orb user as it lacks raw Speed. This Pokemon usually runs either Specs, Scarf or a SubCM set -- so a wallbreaker, revenge killer or set-up sweeper.

  • Again with coverage, Grass is questionable if you're not running Scarf. Dark Pulse is definitely out of consideration as it has so much overlap with Shadow Ball offensively. Consider moves like Trick and Memento if you use Choice, or Substitute and Calm Mind if you go for a set-up sweeper.

  • Trick Room dependent Pokemon synergise poorly on a team that has offensive Pokemon that care about moving first. Slowking is also a really average Pokemon in general -- if you want an offensive Psychic type, you should really use Tapu Lele. But if you just want the set changed, run an Assault Vest set, as this can let Slowking be played as a pivot.

  • Lucario lacks a punch if you're not using Mega or some sort of set-up. If you keep base form, at least use Nasty Plot, as this makes Lucario harder to switch into. I'm generally of the opinion Lucario is more effective with a physical set as it has stronger moves on that side, though at that point you should just use Blaziken.

I also have a Physical Luke as follows;

Lucario @Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
Evs: 252Atk 252Spe 4Def
Nature: Adamant
Extreme Speed
High Jump Kick
Blaze Kick
Earthquake

Good or no?
Yeah that would work. Run Swords Dance and Iron Tail over Blaze Kick and Earthquake though. Those last two don’t hit much that Fighting and Steel combined do not, and the Steel move gets STAB and Fairy coverage. Swords Dance is again because Lucario needs a jump in the power department if you’re using Adrenaline Orb.
