I already made a gen 1 and gen 3 team with a uncommon starter as the main thing making my team different to the meta, so I figured I'd make one for gen 2 aswell. (Note: I'm not that familiar with gen 2 so my team may not be all that good.)
Cloyster @Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Spikes
-Explosion
I wanted Spikes, so I put on Cloyster as my lead. Surf and Ice Beam are the best STAB Cloyster has got, Spikes are here for obvious reasons, and Explosion is to try and remove/weaken something (probably Snorlax).
Snorlax @Leftovers
-Body Slam
-Earthquake
-Curse
-Rest
I figured I'd just get this out of the way since everyone knows every Gen 2 team needs the king himself: Snorlax. Body Slam and Earthquake are the 2 damaging moves, Curse is to set up, and Rest is to stay alive.
Meganium @Leftovers
-Return
-Earthquake
-Swords Dance
-Synthesis
Meganium is actually pretty decent in gen 2 with 2 different niches. I chose the SD one, but I could be see the Screen version working aswell. Return and Earthquake are the best Physical options I saw, Swords Dance is so Meganium can set up, and Synthesis to heal up.
Zapdos @Leftovers
-Thunder
-Drill Peck
-Sleep Talk
-Rest
Zapdos with it's great offensive and defensive capabilities, made it seem like a good idea to include it. Thunder is over Thunderbolt for the required power, Drill Peck is the only real Flying option Zapdos has got, and then I have Rest Talk so Zapdos can keep the pressure up somewhat.
Moltres @Charcoal
-Fire Blast

-Whirlwind
-Hidden Power (Grass)
I noticed some problems with the team, then noticed Moltres helped patch some of those up. Fire Blast with Charcoal in the Sun is so strong it 2 hit KOs Snorlax, plus helps with Skarmory. Then I have Whirlwind to stop set sweepers, and HP Grass so I don't get stopped by Rhydon or Golem.
Golem @Quick Claw
-Hidden Power (Rock)
-Earthquake
-Rapid Spin
-Explosion
I thought that Golem could be a big help on this team with it's Electric immunity and Rapid Spin to clear Spikes. I have the good old Rock Slide + Earthquake combo (Edit: Rock Slide isn't allowed with Rapid Spin, so now it's HP Rock), plus Explosion for that burst damage. Also, i gave Golem a Quick Claw to help with it's speed.
