While i'm at it, is it ever said how big one walking space is?

Probably about 1 metre for each time you take 1-2 steps

There isn't necessarily an actual measurement of how big one step is. What I know is that, different regions such as Kanto, Johto, etc. have different and selected areas of countries (first 4 regions being in Japan. Here, see if this helps:
