PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

Being that I was a lucky SOB who found a shiny Bagon by accident instead of that oddly low-leveled Salamence in Sun & Moon's Route 3 today, it got me thinking of all sorts of potential horror situations. It brought me to a trial situation where if you found a shiny, you couldn't catch the darn thing...kinda like that one in Gen 3 we don't even want to think about.

But then I had to ask myself: is that even possible? Can wild Pokemon you encounter in trials even be shiny? Or have they been shiny locked? If they did, I'm sure that would be much appreciated by the players.

I think on reddit someone encountered a Shiny Totem Lurantis (as if Lurantis wasn't painful enough) but I can't find the source.
Lurantis was tough? It took me like five times to kill the damn Wishiwashi because of an Alomomola that new Heal Pulse and it killed my Pikachu so quickly....and I started with Litten....
Only Trial I really had issue with was Mimikyu because I couldn't outspeed it.  But we seem to have drifted away from the OP's question:  Are Totem Pokemon shiny locked?
Not just Totems, but any Pokemon you find in a trial.
I couldn't do Lurantis or Mimikyu. Others I was fine with.
Although Game Freak were being really nice with a lot of features in Sun and Moon, something tells me that they wouldn't shiny lock the Pokemon you find in the trial sites.
Totems, SOS Pokemon called by the totem, and the Pokemon you battle before the totem Pokemon is all shiny-locked.

Source: I was looking up and found nothing except for a illegal rom that made literally everything 100% guaranteed shiny.
Just because you found nothing when looking it up doesn't mean that the answer is that Pokemon before the totem Pokemon, the totem Pokemon, and Pokemon that are SOS called by the totem Pokemon can't be shiny.
Fact: The Pokemon that appear in game intros with the professor can be shiny.
Is this by personal experience?
I don't think so but yes, the fact is true. (I never saw a Shiny Minccino the same way again.)
Seeing this must be heart-wrenching. Same with encountering a Shiny before you get Poké Balls. It's like the game is slapping you in the face :(
if i saw that uncatchable minccino i would punch my 3ds lol
Sumwun, that has got to be the most interesting Pokemon fact I've ever learned. Fascinating.
Please call me "sumwun" and not "Sumwun". Thanks.
But you always capitalize the first word in a sentence 0.o
its literally the same thing lol

I think it's possible to encounter a shiny during the trials. But I would probably smash my 3ds if I did. Shinies from trials are uncatchable so yeah.

what evidence do you have? I'm looking for like hardwired game coding here, and if nobody can give me that, this'll probably end up hidden...
