I’ve playing thought heartgold again. And here’s my team: Typhlosion, Ampharos, Crobat, Slowbro, Bellossom, and Umbreon. Originally, I wanted to have a Tyranitar instead of Umbreon, and Tangrowth for Bellossom. But you can’t obtain either until the end of the game. Right now, my whole team is level 54 and all I have left is the rematch and Red. Is Lavitar worth training from 15? And is Tangela? Or should I just keep the team the way it is?

First, both Tyranitar and Tangrowth are obtainable before the first time you battle Lance.

Second, if you want to defeat Red as quickly and effortlessly as possible, then I recommend using only Typhlosion, Ampharos, and Slowbro. Crobat covers only Venusaur, which Typhlosion covers better. Grass Pokemon cover only Blastoise and Lapras, which Ampharos covers better. Umbreon doesn't cover anything. A team of 3 Pokemon will level up a lot faster than a team of 6 Pokemon.

Third, if you want to defeat Red as quickly and effortlessly as possible using a team of 6, then I recommend keeping your 6 high-level Pokemon. Leveling up a low-level Pokemon takes a lot of time.

First, one quick note. Most things do not matter in-game because most problems you have can be solved by overlevelling. For your options between Umbreon and Tyranitar, it depends what you want. Tyranitar is meant to be a physical tank. Take and deal hits. Umbreon is meant to stall with moves like toxic and moonlight. I prefer to stall, but it is up to you. Tangrowth is like Umbreon except it is meant for physical attackers only. However, it can also be like Tyranitar with its attack stats. Bellossom is like Tangrowth in many ways where it can stall and deal some decent damage. I would say Bellossom because of the higher SpD stat so it can survive longer. Remember that it is your choice overall though because most problems can be solved by overlevelling. Hope I helped!
