I got a shiny butterfree the other day, and I am working on getting a Timid Mint. I’m not sure what item to give it though, the moveset will be:
Butterfree@??? (GMAXable)
Ability:Compound Eyes
Nature:Timid
EVs:252 Sp.Attack 252 Speed 4 HP
•Quiver Dance
•Sleep Powder
•Pollen Puff
•Hurricane
I will be using this in singles and doubles at the battle tower (It’s in shield)

Are you sure you want to use a Butterfree, not something else like Gyarados?

Use Focus Sash. Even when Gmaxed, it's frail, so it needs to take a hit or two to set up with Quiver Dance and to get off the Sleep Powder.

Another option (which is not that recommended) is Weakness Policy, the best case scenario is that you get +2 special attack from Weakness Policy and +1 speed from Max Airstream. With Gmax you (might) be able to live a super effective move that is not rock type.

Hope this helped!

I would run a Focus Sash, since you’re going to use Sleep Powder/Quiver Dance before you GMAX anyway. Getting in a free Quiver Dance is pretty good, and then outspeeding the opponent and putting them to sleep with Sleep Powder is a good strategy. Butterfree isn’t bulky enough to pull off Quiver Dance without a Focus Sash, so I would go with that. The set would look like this, right?:

Butterfree-Gmax (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- Pollen Puff

So, a Focus Sash is definitely the best option for Butterfree. You’ll be setting up before GMAXing anyway, and even though you probably won’t be OHKOed by anything while GMAXed, Quiver Dance and Sleep Powder should be used before that.

Hope this helps! :)
