What Pokemon were added to the Sinnoh Dex in Platinum compared to Diamond/Pearl?

Do you mean what new Pokemon were added to Platinum, or what previous generation Pokemon were added to the Sinnoh Pokedex in platinum?
I'm going to assume the latter and add it to the description.
I'm guess that by "families", they mean evolutionary lines.

It's probably worth mentioning that all of these Pokemon can be traded to DP and all but the Tropius, Tangela, Electabuzz, Magmar, and Gligar families are obtainable in DP.
Yup, all but Tropius and the Tangela line are obtainable after defeating the Elite Four, unless you don't have access to using the GBA dual slot feature, which would result in the Magby line, the Elekid line, and the Gligar line being unobtainable as well.
Technically you can get the national Pokedex (and catch Pokemon using outbreaks and the Poke radar) without defeating the Elite 4. It's just more difficult that way.
Also why do you call them "lines" when a bunch of them are obviously not lines?
I think that's just common phrasing
Wait, really? You don't have to beat the E4 and Champion to get the National Dex, and only need to see all Sinnoh Pokemon? Huh, I never knew that.
Also, evolution lines are just another form of saying evolution family.
