I really want to know who is the better pick here

In my opinion empoleon is far far better then walrein, mostly because water/steel is a much better typing than water/ice so empoleon would be better
You'll probably get a better answer if you ask here: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/orange-islands-sqsa-thread.3603112/
In my personal opinion, Walrein. It has a better HP and defence stat but the same overall base stat. I also prefer its move pool over Empoleon. In the end it your choice which one you pick, choose your favorite and go with it.

Let's compare the two:

  Walrein pros:
  • More spread out stats
  • Better abilities
    Walrein cons:
  • The moveset Walrein gets in Legends Arceus is horrible(the best
special water move for Walrein is water pulse)
    -Worse type matchup

Now,

Empoleon pros:
  • Better moveset
  • Better type matchup(Empoleon's best special water move is hydro pump)
  • Evolves earlier
    Empoleon cons:
  • Worse abilities
  • It's special stats mean nothing if something faster hits super effectively, the move is physical, and it OHKO's

Now that the pros and cons list is sorted out, I think Empoleon is the better than Walrein (not because Empoleon is a bird and I like birds) because Empoleon has better moveset. Empoleon has access to aqua jet, hydro pump, flash cannon, roost, stealth rock, ice beam, steel beam, and even water pulse, just like Walrein.

This is my first time I answered a question so tell me if I made a mistake.

Just one problem. There aren’t any abilities in Pokémon Legends Arceus, so abilities don’t actually matter, also when it comes to speed, usually in a play through, I found that strong and agile style moves made up for it when playing through. As long as it could hit hard, it could take down Pokémon pretty easily.

Also, consider when you get access to the Pokémon next time you do a play through answer, though both Empoleon and and Walrein and their evolutionary lines can be found in the Cobalt Coastlands, with their fully evolved forms usually an Alpha Pokémon. Additionally, you should think about other alternatives to each Pokémon. Empoleon might be a good water type, but am you missing out on better steel types? Same with Walrein. Sorry for the wall of text.
No the wall of text is helpful thanks for the information. Even if i'm trying to play Legends Arceus with only birds, I never knew there were no abilities.
