I've been playing on an authentic copy of Pokemon crystal recently, I have about 50+ hours in the game so far and i'm working on my pokedex, recently though my copy has been starting to crash and freeze quite a bit, and sometimes go to the game's "this game was intended for gameboy color consoles only" screen. I'm playing on a gameboy advance SP. There does seem to be a pattern of most of the crashes and pauses occuring when either start and select are pressed, but it doesn't crash every time, any idea what's up? my other Pokemon games are running fine.

Would you be able to attach photos of the crystal cartridge, including the motherboard? I’m curious as to how the pins look.

I’m not sure if it’s relevant or not, but do you know when the last time the battery was changed?
Can you show us a video?
@sumwun, i dont think a video would add any information to this question. I have experienced this on my authentic copy before; while already playing, it just randomly turned to the screen OP mentioned with no trigger. Sometimes it also happens on startup. turn on the gameboy and BAM, same screen.

it's ultimately a read issue with the cartridge. It was coded in to prevent people from playing on gameboys instead of GBC. It's meant to be there; it's just being unlawfully triggered, which is a known issue.

mine just stopped doing it as randomly as it started.

OP probably just needs to clean the contacts and not move around while playing.

it would be great if OP could reply so that we can try identifying why, but this post is just as answerable if we explain the read error and list all possible fixes.
