PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I have been watching videos on shiny hunting LGP/LGE and have noticed 3 different creators exclusively using premier balls. Is this just an appearance preference? I thought premier balls had a catch rate of a regular Pokéball?

I also noticed a guy making comments that a shiny had gotten away because he wouldn’t use anything EXCEPT a premium. So it has me baffled.

Yes, this is purely for cosmetic reasons. Premier Balls have the same catch-rate as a standard Poké Ball, though people tend to use them for shinies because they like how they look and/or want to add a sense of self-worth to them. In other games, there are people who similarly use Luxury Balls only, color-code their Poké Balls, or use the Beast Ball on shinies for this exact reason.

For LGPE specifically, Premier Balls are the only unique Poké Balls in the game besides the usual Poké, Great, Ultra, and Master Ball obtainable, likely prompting people to use them as well.

Thank you! When you break it down like that, it made a lot more sense. Still blows my mind that someone would let a shiny escape over using a stonger ball though….
