Wow, this thread really blew up!
Hi, I'm Scraf. And this is my story:

Seven-year old me really wanted a Game Boy Advance for my birthday. I opened up a grey, glossy box to find a Spongebob GBA and three games: Arcade Games, Galaga Remastered, and Pokemon Fire Red. I clocked in about 800,000 points in Galaga before I put it down for the next eight years, and Arcade Games was a bit too hard for seven-year old me. Fire Red, however, I didn't quite put down just yet.

I clocked 999:59 into that thing faster than you'd expect. I chose Squirtle as my starter and set off out of Pallet Town. My sister got Leaf Green the year later, and I traded my Lvl. 100 Blastoise over to her game. She restarted it. Nooooooo :D

That over the following three years, I purchased Pokemon Games in quick succession. Pokemon Ruby, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver and White all were welcomed into my collection. This was about when I was in Grade 6.

...then I just stopped playing. Pokemon became unpopular. Anyone who played it was the dunce.

Three years later, around the release of X & Y, I stumbled upon this site. The news section helped me out a ton, deciphering all of these new Pokemon, the Fairy Type, why Aegislash looks so great, etc. Then, I discovered Pokebase.

It was like a cool breeze with the smell of freshly fallen rain blew out of my laptop screen that day. There were so many resources and such an amazing community, I quickly identified Pokebase as a safe haven of the Internet.

I quickly proceeded to pump out answers and questions. People generally liked my answers, and I kept getting more points. And then, around January of 2015, I left.

Well, what can I say? I've lost interest in Pokemon for the time being and OR is my last game for the time being. As I listen to YEHEHE, this is my sendoff.

Thanks for being awesome.

That's my story. What's yours?

Post stories about how Pokebase changed your view on Pokemon, rekindled your love for it, or just helped you out overall!
Pokebase, or Pokemon Database, is a great site. A lot of good has happened here so lets tell our experiences of how this site helped us!

My story of how I got into Pokémon, and how I found this site.

One day, I was on the internet (with my parents lol and safe search) and I found out about pokemon, and started getting into it. All I knew was pikachu and Kanto at the age of 6. I didn’t know what a Nintendo DS/2DS/3DS was at the time. Pokémon got unpopular and I was afraid to even like it anymore, and I slowly forgot what it was at all. When it started succeeding again, I was re-introduced into it. I forgot about so much, that I though that the only regions were Kanto and Alola LOL. Once the Nintendo switch came out, I got one and was so excited to know that there was a new Pokémon game. Even though I hadn’t been following the series, it felt like this game would bring me back to what I knew. Back to the 90’s but I wasn’t born at that time LOL but I had been wanting a Nintendo 3DS before the switch. After playing, I started to get into the older games, I now have moon, ultra sun, X, Y, and detective pikachu. Then later on, I was just browsing the web and I searched a unique search, “Pokémon question and answer” because I could never find anything I had a question about. The first result that catches my eye is Pokébase. I start looking around, and I quickly decided to make an account. I saw this great community and was very happy with the outcome. And here I am, a happy Pokémon fan that loves pokebase.

I loved Pokemon from a young age. I've been on this site for less than fifteen minutes but I figured this would be a good place to post my first answer.

Pokemon was the first video game I'd ever played, other than random games that I played at my cousin's house.

Anyway, my love for Pokemon grew over the years, and one day, in elementary school, we were allowed to bring our games into school. I, of course, played Pokemon.

However, while I was battling a trainer, our teacher approached and deemed that it was too violent, and my games were confiscated. Thankfully, they were returned eventually.

The Beggining

A long time ago (wdym gen 6 was more than a decade ago... I'm old), in the faraway (depends on where you live ig) country of Brazil...
My first contact with the franchise was around the Gen 6 era, when my brother wanted to watch the original series of the anime on Netflix. This series, as well as the XY series and the official Pokémon website's pokédex were basically our only sources of Pokémon data. This combined with the fact I was just a kid back then meant I made a bunch of silly assumptions, like all Tentacruel being kaiju-sized (I didn't pay attention on the mutation part).

The Pokémon GO fever

GO was my first Pokémon game as far as I can remember (actually I think it was Pokémon Shuffle mobile but that barely counts). I started with Squirtle, since blue is my favorite color, and water is my favorite element (yes I watched ATLA that show is goated btw). Irc I started back in 2018, but, my progress was a little slow until 2020, (yup, the worst time to play the game) a little while after I finished my first FireRed playthrough.

The Main Series

Around the beggining of 2020, I saw a friend of mine playing Pokémon FireRed, a game I heard very little about before, on his phone. I wanted to play too, so, with his help, I downloaded the emulator and the ROM and started playing, starting with Squirtle once again. It was so fun getting to use your own Pokémon team for once and getting them to the hall of fame, so of course I did it again... and again... and suddenly I have like 50 halls of fames saved on my gallery lol. Btw I never owned (and still don't own) a nintendo console before, so I always played exclusively on emulator (and some of the mobile spinoff games too).

A database full of info

So, as it turns out, the official website's Pokédex didn't exactly have the amount of data I wanted, so I looked for another online Pokédex, when one day I found Pokémon DB's shiny dex, and since then started using this site as my main source of Pokémon data, alongside Bulbapedia, which I found sometime later. Eventually I discovered Pokébase and the moveset questions, so I logged in as BlastFury0614, posted a set for one of my favorite Pokémon, Raichu, and then became an active mamber of the DB community for quite some time.

Smogon and Showdown!

I somewhat started learning about competitive in DB, but I wanted to see what Showdown! was all about, and I played it a lot for quite some time, particularly OMs, random battles, and minor tours on the chatrooms. I'm not really that good in the grand scheme of things (I have always been a casual player), but I had a lot of fun playing, so it didn't matter.

So where tf am I rn?

A lot has changed since the last time I updated this, and I haven't been truly active here or in Showdown! for a while. I wanted to clarify what I'm doing rn, not because anyone actually cares (let's be real nobody ever did), but because I want to idk.
Turns out I'm in college now, and so I don't have as much free time as I used to back when I was a teenager. Plus, while I still have a lot of love for this franchise, I'm not as obsessed with playing the games anymore: I barely touched GO or Showdown! at all in the last two years and only played main series or rom hacks very sporadically. That being said I still watch the Pokémon anime weekly (Horizons is underrated btw) and still see plenty of Pokémon content on social media, so I haven't really missed anything.
For more recent news, as someone who spent more time then I realisticaly should've on Pokémon Showdown!, I'm super excited for Pokémon Champions and will try playing it whenever the mobile version releases (insert the "Squidward looking at the window" meme). Also, I'm super glad to see Pokémon finnaly having Brazilian Portuguese as an available language in the main series games (took you way too long Gamefreak).

I may upgrade this again whenever it's necessary (Won't promise anything tho)

Well, I once was looking at netflix, and found pokemon xy. Some friends of mine liked pokemon and gave me some cards, and then I asked my dad about pokemon video games, he had some, and then I started playing. My first game was gold. Then, I got a lot into it and I found this website, I just stalked around on it a lot, I was too scared to ask my dad, but I mustered enough courage and I asked him in February 2021, he said yes, and well here I am. Kind of boring but yeah.

When I was about 6, my uncle gave me a cartridge for Black 2 along with a 2DS. For some reason, I decided it would be funny to name everything a series of all-caps random letters. I remember picking Oshawott and naming it something along the lines of XGCGSBVF. I didn't know much about Pokemon, so I caught and filled my party with low-level early route Pokemon and never bothered to train them. Because of that, I quickly got stuck on Burgh and his Leavanny, making me put down the game because it was too difficult for me at that age. The game proceeded to reside in my closet for 3 years. After I rediscovered it, I remembered my struggles with Burgh and decided to turn to the internet for help. That's when I found Pokebase. I instantly liked how easy it was to read and never considered looking for other sites. I made an account by the name of CyberRyderVIII because I felt the need to comment something about Zekrom on an old thread. After that, I put down Pokemon again for a bit. I returned after Sword and Shield came out, and made my first Showdown account, called Sir Chasm 27. The pandemic started and my interest exploded. I became much more active on Pokebase and Showdown, getting more familiar with the website and becoming more knowledgeable about Pokemon. I got more confident with my knowledge and in the summer of 2020 I wrote my first answer. Since then, my interest in Pokemon hasn't faltered.

Hi I’m Feeshy-Freggles. Some of you may know me, some of you won’t. A lot of people reading this in the future probably won’t know me either. I just thought it would be cool to post one of these things for me to update when I leave the site or something. Anyway my story starts in more humble beginnings

the beginning

As a young child, Pokémon was my favourite thing. Ever since the age of around 5ish I had been obsessed with it. And for a while my favorite Pokémon was Umbreon. Then after a period of changes I landed on Poliwhirl and Ive stuck with it ever since. It wasn’t, however until 2022 when I got my first Pokémon game. It was Pokémon Violet, and it was amazing! having just used a crappy iPad until getting a switch that day and I was amazed. Starting my own journey as a Pokémon trainer! It was great! So I chose Sprigatito and…. Went the entire game without encountering a single Poliwhirl! ):<

Showdown!

In 2024, my friend told me about a website that let you battle with all the different kind of Pokémon and stuff. So I found it, made an account and had to come up with a username. I had never came up with an internet username before so I took a nickname I had (Freggles) and combined it with feeshy cause of…. reasons. And voila! Feeshy-Freggles! I spent a lot of time on the PS lobby spamming and getting kicked but I also did random battles and anything goes. For a while before this I had been using a website called pokemondb for my info and thats when I found….

PokéBase

I didn’t have the best start in the world. I posted an RMT post on the main section and then reposted it on RMT… where it was closed bcs it had Poliwhirl lol. My first actual thread was about how castform had no shiny. This was answered and I was so happy to have an actual decent question! Slowly I got better at the site. The other thing slowly growing was

Team Ribbit

Ever since joining the site I have had my own evil Pokémon team: team ribbit. Team ribbit is a frog only team that is NOT a rip-off of PM7s team frog Bcs I didn’t rlly know who he was until after making the team. Throughout the history of me being on the site team ribbit has been growing, now with more members than ever! We have seen some pretty big wars on this site, like the one against the FASTEST (Felines Are Supirior To Every Single Thing) and against the entire hoenn region. The longest war has been going for 951 years and it is the Great War against the crab empire. Team ribbit has come a long way from just me, a friend, and a Poliwhirl to 14 members from the db! (It doesn’t sound like a lot but this site isnt actually that active soooo) team ribbit has been a huge part of my time here and I’m glad that my Poliwhirl founded it

The Present

And now we come to the present. I have more many good answers and contributions to this site and have over 1000 points on the main section. I will probably update this when I leave the site for good but for now this is the end of my story. Hope I didn’t bore you to death!
