I don’t understand what the point of them are when you could just edit them normally. The only scenario I could think of where it’d be even the tiniest bit useful is if you want to work in the shadows and don’t want people to know you’re active, but I don’t understand why anyone would want to do that either.

EDIT: You’re welcome Hellfire you don’t have to retag this I used a legitimate tag for once LOL

I believe it is editing without is saying "edited by so-and-so".
I know what it is, I don’t know why anyone would need it
I think another thing it does is remove the previous edit from the "version history" of the post, so I guess they might be able to permanently delete content that way. Also it's the only way to stop the "if you change this I'll just change it back" trolls who are constantly refreshing their "My Updates".
How can you silent edit?
Only moderators can do it SYL
As far as I know, silent edits don't bump the post to the top of the activity page so people don't have to see them. That's the point of them.
I guess it would also do good in the case that the person who got edited is immature and wants to bash the person who edited them.

The main reason would be to edit something without it being “bumped” on the All Activity page.

It should also not add an entry to the “edit history” which would prevent that getting too long if you make several minor edits. However, as I’m writing I remember there was a bug with that which I don’t think I ever fixed.

Yeah silent edits do add to the edit history. Been like that for a couple years I think.
