PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I really want to use Serperior competitively. It just seems that it gets outclassed by Pokemon such as Sceptile or Torterra. What is the best way I can use it as a sweeper in today's X/Y Competitive Battle Scene?

Pros and Cons are strongly urged

Pros:

  • High base 113 Speed and a 95 base Special Attack is usable as a lower tier sweeper.
  • Contrary makes it go crazy after one Leaf Storm. After that powerful hit, it's Special Attack just rises.
  • Its one of the few Pokemon to get Glare.

Cons:

  • Utterly horrible movepool.
  • Weak to some of the most common offensive types, including Ice and Fire.

Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
Modest/Timid Nature
252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Glare/Aromatherapy

Personally, I do this thing getting a lot more use. Contrary Leaf Storm will get it a lot of attention and it might become a premier sweeper in the lower tiers.

EDIT: k I guess Smogon lied to me, Contrary is unreleased v~v

Another Edit: k I guess Serperior isn't as great as its Special Attack is actually 75. At least it can still take hits (thanks Fizz).

Just saying, its Special Attack is base 75, not 95. Its Special Defence and Defence are 95 though.
Curses. Thanks.

Yeah, it is 100% outclassed. But since you asked...

Pros

  • A sensational 113 Speed stat that outspeeds a good amount of the tier.
  • An impressive defensive movepool that includes Taunt, Dual Sceens and more. Its offensive movepool isn't impressive at all, however.
  • Access to Coil and Swords Dance, two good boosting moves.

Cons

  • Disgusting offensive stats (75 / 75) that really limit its sweeping potential.
  • It is walled by almost anything with a Grass resistance thanks to its bad offensive movepool.
  • It has Contrary, but it is unreleased, which is really upsetting since Serperior has access to Leaf Storm.

Its stats just aren't impressive enough, it is walled easily, and its offensive movepool is non-existent. Don't use it over other Grass Pokemon that should be used like Venusaur and Breloom.

Pros of Serperior

  1. Fast
  2. Access to Swords Dance
  3. Good Moveset
  4. Decent

Cons of Serperior

  1. Outclassed by Sceptile in Speed, Atk, and Sp. Atk
  2. Not a strong Atker or Sp. Atker
  3. Can only take a couple attacks.

Overall, a Sceptile Out classes it
